I am beefing up my original 68 289 with some AFR aluminum heads, new cam, forged pistons, and some other goodies. I would like to add the Edelbrock Air gap intake, but then i started to think about hood clearance.
Will it fit with a regular round 289 style air cleaner with a stock filter??

You'll be in good shape with hood clearance with just about any style aircleaner on that car with the RPM intake. 351W is when you may get into clearance issues. Or you can use the 1" drop down style round ones that are available from Edelbrock , Moroso ect.. for even more clearance, I think they look better too. Looks like you plan on rebuilding the entire engine, good luck.

With my combo:
TCP solid mounts, rpm airgap, Holley 600 DP and the 2 1/4" K&N filter w Extreme lid and a F-glass hood with the scoop. I had to go to a 1/2" carb spacer to clear the hood.
I tried diff height air filters and the drop base, but my fuel line to the carb wouldn't allow the drop base.

I created this database to help answer this question. Take a look and see what combos others are running and if there are any issues. There is also a header fitment link in my signature.

Before I started the fuel injection project I was using an Air Gap on my stroker. I used the 65 style mounts, a little lower I understand than the 66 mounts. I used a 1/4 thick insulator carb mounting gasket, and a Speed Demon 650 carb. For an air filter I was using the oval Cobra repro from Branda, the style with two visible wing nuts, not the single like some others.

This fit under the steel hood without any problems.

Excuse me for being slow, but does that mean itwill fit the 68 stock hood??

I see that in the diagram that all the 67 and above models that use the air gap have a 4" cowl hood. However, that obviously does not apply to my application. I would hate to put it in then have it not fit.
thanks
