hey guys i just rebuilt a 302 and put it in a f150. its running fine but there is a clicking noise coming out of the carb. or coming through the intake. Its a edelbrock 600 with electric choke on a edelbrock performer intake. I don't have the choke hooked up, could that be it? it doesn't sound like it is coming from the choke. at first i thought the valves were tapping but its not that either because i took the valve cover off and adjusted each one and nothing changed. please help. thanks

ok guys i discovered that the noise is coming from the 2 back barrells. with the truck running i could push down on the two back throats and i could feel the popping and when i opened them it stalled the truck. what gives

there should be to sets of plates on the back secondaries i belive. the two lower are controled by the throttle linkage, the other two on the top, are on weights. I think the theroy is that with the lower trottle blades open, the weights on the top blade will limit the air intake according to engine demand... Look down the back of the carb and see if those 2 lower plates are stuck open. if not at idle the engine may be spuratically pulling the top plates open causing the clicking noise, and with them wide open, at idle might simply flood the engine... just my crazy 2 cents, but im probabaly way off

the bottom plates are closed and i can move the uppers by hand. like you said they are on weights(the uppers). it seems like the sound is under the bottom plates. if this helps any i took of the number plug wire and it stopped making the clicking noise and it didn't seem to run any worse than it already was. almost like the #1 cylinder wasn't firing. let me ask yall this. why does the distributer cap have a number 1 marked on it? i know it means to put the number 1 wire there but why does it have to be on that point?when we put the distributer in we couldn't get it to drop in with the rotor pointing in that direction so we put it where it would drop in and put the number 1 wire on the point where the rotor was pointing. i have the number one wire where the number 7 should be if i had used the "marked" #1 terminal. is this ok or will it screw up the pickup coil? thanks
