Edelbrock or Not

Since I'm looking at a rebuild I'm trying to decide whether the cost of installing Edelbrock Heads (60259) vs a custom build of GT-40 heads is worth the extra $600/800. Anyone have any experience or knowledge.

I'm also confused why the Summit site shows the 60259 being applicable only up to the '85 model year. Is this just a listing error on their part? The Edelbrock site identifies them as Ford 289-351W Performer RPM Aluminum Cylinder Heads. I assume for all years.

yea they will work, but heres the thing, those eddy heads dont have the best valve train parts...you will be having to upgrade the springs and what not, so get the bare heads and have some one assemble the heads w/ good parts.

The intake valves are too big (2.02) to work with the stock pistons. You would have to put aftermarket pistons in or flycut your existing ones for them to work.

You get what you pay for.

IMHO get the Edelbrock aluminum heads. In addition to flowing better than the stock heads, you will also get the benifit of shaving 50+ pounds off the front end.

Yes, you can do some custom iron heads, but they aren't as light as the aluminum one's.

Look on Edelbrock's web-site for the right part number if you are confused.

I'm going with the Edelbrock 60529's as he has them on hand and is discounting them by about 20%.

So here's the program.

Labor

Strip Block. R&R cam bearings, frost plugs and oil gallery plugs. Hot tank block. Check align bore. Thread chase all bolt holes, flat sand gasket surfaces, Mag check block and reclean block after boring. Install cam bearing, frost plugs and oil gallery plugs.
Bore & finish hone with torque plate
Grind and polish crankshaft
R&R pistons and fit pins
Resize connecting rods with ARP bolts
Mock up crank & measure 4 corners, parallel deck block
Balance engine assembly
Assemble engine to long block

Replace engine assembly, install electronics and related items.
