edelbrock performer intake to much for my car?

My car is basically stock. I am putting headers and off road h on hopefully this weekened. There is a good deal on a upper and lower edelbrock performer intake manifold. What king of hp gains would it be worth? Would i need a bigger tb and if so what size? Also how hard is it to install? Just unbolt old one and slap on new one? Or is there something else i would need to buy? Thanks

Im not 100% but I am pretty sure you can use the stock throttle body but an aftermarket one couldn't hurt. The installation is pretty much like you thought, unbolt the old and put on the new one. The only thing you will need if it doesn't come with the intake is gaskets. I would imagine an intake would be worth 15hp or so. You will probably get a pretty good increase increase in power if you did the intake, headers, and offroad h at one time, maybe 20-25hp.

Edelbrock recomends a 70mm TB, but most people use a 65mm. The stock TB should work for a while without problem.

i wouldnt put anything over a 65mm TB because it will be overkill, unless u plan on doing heads or something real soon or supercharging it... im sure u can bolt the stock back on... they say u might gain about 15 20HP with intake and maybe another 15 with exhaust... i dunno just my guess

I installed an edelbrock performer on my old stock motor a couple of years ago, I had exhaust gears a couple of small bolt ons, but the motor was stock, I didn't really see any gains. Those stock heads just kill the whole car, if you can get a deal on it be worth buying for future upgrades, but as far as expecting to pick up alot of hp don't expect it. A good set of aluminum heads is the best investment anybody can make.

well i plan on doing heads next. And then sparying it. So i guess i should go witht he 70mm tb. Would i need to get the car tuned? Or would it be fine just putting it all to gether. Also is it worth getting the stock heads p/p?

Throwing the intake on by itself might not hurt your torque down low. If you do the a 70mm at the same time with no other mods, your torque loss will likely be noticable. You wont gain enough HP to overcome what loss you feel. For now, since your getting a nice deal on the intake, just change it. Wait until you're ready to do some other stuff to do the throttle body.

A 70mm throttle body isn't going to make the slightest difference in lower-end torque. The intake manifold runner length and size is what will affect that (if any).

Not sure what the opening size is on a performer, but with the trick flow street heat I ran, the stock throttle body would have been a bad match -- the throttle body intake hole was too big.

Go for the performer, 70mm, and a bigger MAF to get as much air flowing into that motor as you can. You'll be glad you have all that out of the way when you're ready to do heads.

I ran a street heat on a stock motor. There is definitely a notice increase in power in the upper rpms...

Performer's TB hole is 70 mm.

In a stick car, maybe you won't feel a difference. In an OAD car you will.

If you have the money, do as much as you can, if not wait until your ready to do the heads. Either way, you'll be alright.

Get a spacer that is the same size as the tb. If you don't the stock spacer will just restrict airflow.
