Edelbrock RPM II Intake

The next mod I'm planning for is an Edelbrock Performer RPM II intake with a BBK 70mm TB and an EGR plate. My motor will have stock heads and a stock bottom end at the time of the install. Am I going to run into fuel delivery issues with the 19# injectors? Eventually i'll upgrade the injectors/MAF/fuel pump, but thats a future project. Also is this a direct bolt on? Are there any modifications necessary? Will there be hood clearence issues with the stock hood?

should be a direct bolt on, 19's will be fine until you change heads, make sure you get all the vac lines conneted to the new intake correctly, will fit under factory hood. Thats a pretty high flowing intake for factory heads.....you would be better off with the edelbrock performer intake with what you are working with my .02

agreed that intake is alot for stock heads, but it will work well when you upgrade the heads, and even better with boost

injectors and everything will be fine for now

There was a hot rod article some years back when they built up a junkyard jewel 5.0 to like 400hp.

Anyway, one of the early steps was that they replaced the stock intake with a RPM II while the motor still had stock heads. I don't recall exactly what the results were, but the gist was that it picked up like 10 hp on the high end, but that torque was down by over 30 ftlbs.

You may install this intake only to feel like the car is slower.

Might be wise to continue saving for some heads and swap the intake on at the same time.

I have that Junkyard Jewel 5.0 article. When the Edelbrock Performer RPM II intake was swapped in a stock H/C/I 5.0 with full bolt-ons (C&L 76mm MAF/CAI kit, Edelbrock 70mm TB, Kooks stepped tube headers, merge collectors, Magnaflow mufflers, Cobra 1.7 RR's, 280hp/330lbft crank), the result was a 13hp gain and a 13lbft loss (293/317).
The bottom line is that the RPM II intake will make the engine feel softer at low/medium rpm and you'll need to dial in more rpm to get a decent launch. I agree that it's a better idea to wait until you buy better heads and install heads/intake at the same time.

I agree with above, put some heads on it at the same time and you will love the rpmII. With the stock heads, not so much.

Installing that intake now is a waste of perfectly good gaskets.

I saved that article, too. That was a great build. It ended up making 388hp with a mild cam and so-so heads. I think with better heads alone they could have easily eclipsed 400. All that on a stone-stock junkyard bottom end. Badass!

I agree, wait for heads to run that intake. If you really want to do an intake now, run the Performer.

You should also consider an Accufab TB over that BBK.

Been there done that. Car with feel slower with just an intake leave it in the box until you put on a set of heads.

I had issues with my Performer RPM II sitting under the hood and ended up damaging it , when its all said and done take some clay and put it top the intake and see if it clears , i did not and now the corner of my intake is scuffed up. I ended up having to remove some of the bracing from under the hood and have no issues now.

^What motor mounts were you running? Did you have an intake spacer? Stock K-member?

Everything stock with no spacer, i might fill it in later on then paint but its an eye soar for now.

I've only heard of them not fitting on the 94-95. I'll keep an eye out when I install mine.

Well, I want to go forced induction eventually, so I figure H/C/I then a blower with mild boost. So I'm pretty much planning for the future when i decided that this was the intake i wanted. I figure the Edelbrock heads, with the RPM II and a mild cam would be a pretty decent setup (of course 24# injectors/MAF would be a necessity at that point). That coupled with the blower would put out some nice power and then I would be happy and content. But to be honest, at that point I'm not sure where I would like to go with the bottom end. I don't think stock would suffice with all that top end work.
