I've ran edlebrocks with good and bad luck, but the best carbs I have ever ran were demons, even better than holleys' even better than designer holleys like pro-systems...........my last suposedly perfectly tuned pro systems holley 950 hp ran like crap, I bought a reman demon 750 annular off ebay for 200 cheaper and it ran perfect out of the box......
Only thing Ill say about the demon, they come jetted rich on the two builds Ive done. Our Pantera on the dyno had an AF of 11.4 right out of the box. Other than that, its a nice carb, but for the money Id go to Prosystems and have a carb built to your engine specs.
I have an Edelbrock Thunder Series 800cfm on my ~425hp 351w, and I have to say that it performs brilliantly under normal-to-spirited street driving conditions, including a great idle.
However, when I've driven on the track (road course), I have a couple of problems... 1) there's a minor hesitation around 4500-4700 rpm, but the biggest problem is fuel starvation under heavy braking. If I let off the gas and brake heavily, the engine wants to stall. It runs ok if I keep the revs up, but it seems like I shouldn't have to do that if the carb was setup for road racing.
For anyone out there who knows Edelbrock carbs, what tuning options do I have for setting the carb up for open track driving?
(sure, I may end up buying a properly built road race holly carb somewhere down the road, but since I'm spending every last dollar I have on new paint & body work right now, I don't have the option to make another expensive purchase this year.)
I've never run a edelbrock, but your stalling under hard braking is fuel slosh. It's getting into the bowl vents to the point where it's flodding the motor with fuel. Figure out a way to install baffles to prevent this and the problem should go away. Holley has bowl vent whistles to eliminate this on their carbs.
Just my opinion, but if you're going to be road racing I think you should hold back on perfect paint and bodywork until everything else works the way you want.
I have never had any problems with edelbrocks on hard braking or hard cornering. I would triple check your float level too.
I can say my 750 edelbrock is awesome on my 347. Runs and drives almost like EFI, and is scary when you step on it.
I don't know why so many people have problems with any bogs, a simple jet/metering rod change has always fixed any bog I ever had with an edelbrock, and sometimes never even had any bog.
My experience with Holley is that in order for your car to run like a champ with a Holley, it needs to run unecessarily rich. Just my opinion and experience.

Too late... the trigger has been pulled on paint. The car only has about 4 weeks until it's done!!! (can't wait to start reassembly)
And just for clarification, I'm not really "road racing" the car... just driving open track events. My car will be primarily a street car, but I do plan to participate in 3-6 open track events each year.
I'm was just looking for someone who might have experience tuning an Edelbrock carb for track driving, because it would be a whole lot cheaper to play around with a few adjustments instead of buying a new carb right now.
