Edelbrock: "we can't make power..."

At the 40th event in Nashville I asked the Edelbrock rep when we were going to get an intake for the 4.6. He said they've had a couple of prototypes but they're not making any power over stock. He said they're not going to make one unless they can show an increase with it. I asked him why people were willing to pay 1200+ for the bullit intake and he didn't really have an answer for that.

There is probably some truth to what the Edelbrock man said. If Ford could only find 5hp with the Bullitt intake, why should we expect Edelbrock to do any better? And the Bullitt intake is a pretty radical change from the regular one... Edelbrock will want to make something that matches the stock piece more closely.

Incidentally, I always figured the Bullitt intake appealed to people who don't like the idea of a plastic manifold. Personally, I don't have any issue with that, and I think the regular plastic piece is a pretty effective design.

Stop looking at peak gains. You might only gain a couple HP at peak with a Bullitt intake, but your gains up top and down low are even more impressive. The Bullitt intake doesn't crap out after you hit peak HP as bad as the stock setup does.

Word. You need to look at the increase across the band than just the peak. Our cars will benefit with hp increases on the low-mid end, being they are so weak. Besides, Edelbrock sucks in my opinion.

Kind of strange how a company a big as Edelbrock (read: lots of $$$ and resources) can't find power in a 4.6L 2V intake. Fox Lake did a good job on a stock/mostly stock setup with their intake. It's pricy, but you can't have it all.
