Hi all,
I am stuck on my EFI conversion and i need some professional help. I have everything sorted out and it actually starts but idles and runs like crap!
I cant figure it out so i want to take it to someone who can. Does anyone have a recomendation of a good Mustang shop in San Diego CA?
Thanks

What type of EFI system did you use?

assuming that you used the factory ford EFI system, start by checking the wiring, specifically the injector wiring. if you used an HO 5.0 efi system, the firing order would be 1-3-7-2-6-5-4-8. sometimes people forget this and use the older ford 1-5-4-2-6-3-7-8 wiring, and of course the engine runs like crap. and that is what it sounds like you might have done. also check the ignition wiring as well.

after that go back through the electrical system, and clean every plug, both sides, ans reconnect them remembering to use the dielectric silicon grease ford used to waterproof the connectors.

from this point check the simple things like vacuum leaks, plugs, valve lash, etc.

you might also have the injectors flow tested to make sure they are putting out according to spec.

Thanks for the suggestions. I am using factory EFI. I have been through the firing order and am actually using all the parts from the same donor so it should be correct. I have been through all the connections a few times. everything seems to be in order. Starts and idles. Idle is a little erratic. Stutters under throttle and bucks when driven. can only get 5mph bucking and lurching down the street.
I have eliminated all the EGR and smog crap. All vacuum connectors with the exception of the PCV, and fuel regulator have been capped.
Any other suggestions!
Thanks

The first step should be to pull the codes from the computer. What codes are present on the KOEO and KOER tests?

There's a guy on the Fox 5.0 tech forum, JRichker, that has helped me in the past on my fox 5.0. You can start with this link and if you run into issues just PM jrichker:

When removing the EGR and smog did you make sure to fool the computer into thinking it's present? I believe the system goes into limp mode when EGR isn't present without a resistor being isntalled.

After that start by unplugging the TFI module as well as the IAC valve.
Start the engine
set the idle at 550-600
time the engine to the stock specifications (don't advance it, the computer will do that for you)
reset the idle if it has risen.
plug all sensors back in.

I know when I did my conversion I forgot to set the base idle and it was acting really weird until I got it all set properly. I also was setting the base timing with the IAC valve plugged in which is not the correct method either.

Hope this helps. You don't need a shop. Just keep asking questions and you'll get it right. Save the money for something else.

Make sure you disconnect the spout connector when setting the timing

Thanks for all the advice.
I bought the harness from some guy on ebay. He says the EGR resisters ar e installed to fool the computer.
I will try the suggestions from above and see if i can get it sorted out this weekend.
Thanks again
