EFI engine swap

It's quite obvious this is a restomod Mustang site. I have just as much right at being here to express my opinions as any of you. Does anyone want to tell me that I am wrong for expressing my opinions about restomodding Classic Mustangs on this site?

Sure, you have as much right as anyone to post your opinions. I'm not trying to speak for anyone else, but from what others are posting, it seems that the main desire is simply for you to post these opinions in the talk forum.

While I don't agree w/ your opinion, you're welcome to express it. However, you have deviated so far from any real technical info that this has turned into a talk thread.

The OP simply asked about any differences b/w 5.0 engines, and you've decided to turn it into your personal soap box. That is why this dialogue belongs in Talk, not Tech.

One more off topic post and I'm going to mod alert this crap.

Honestly, find a wrecked 5.0 5 speed car- thats the only way I would do it- thats the way I did my last car

I am working with a friend right now to put an EFI 5.0 into a 68. We bought the hole car and yanked the entire drive line. It is a lot easier this way because you get the right ECU for your setup. Manual trans and auto trans have different settings in the ECU. This is kind of a non-issue if you do a custom tune but if you are keeping the tune stock then it matters. Since wrestlings season started the project is kind of on hold. That motor is totally built and will run great. Even a stock EFI motor will deliver decent power. If you up the power, its easier to make them behave properly then with a carb motor if you aren't good at carb tuning. The ECU will take care of it for you.

it is one thing to express your opinion regarding the modification of early mustangs. it is another thing to preach that a particular modification somehow makes a classic car something else. i recognize that i am not a purist. if i feet that using late model parts in an early model car makes the early car better, then i am all for it. you need to recognize that if the technology was available in the 60's when these cars were built, ford would have lead the way in using the technology. just because rack and pinion steering, macpherson strut suspension, electronic fuel injection, antilock brakes, overdrive transmissions, etc were not available then, doesnt mean they cant be used on the early cars now. get off your high horse, and either participate in the discussion, or Sierra Tango Foxtrot Union and Golf Tango Foxtrot Oscar.

I am a member of 3 forums and Soaring is on 2 of them. He does offer some good information on many subject matters so I think he could add benefit to this forum. The only problem I have experienced with him is the one he has exhibited in this forum already. He has no respect for people who modify their cars. I have a highly modified car and get tired of this point of view. :nonono: With that said, I sometimes wish soaring would keep his opinions to himself if they are not constructive. It does nobody any good. So Soaring listen to your mommy (and the rest of us) stop bashing all the modified cars out there or just leave us all alone. I don't make comments like "classic unmodified mustangs are just ancient and should be buried like other relics". I don't believe that so please don't jump on me. I work in an industry where I get paid to tell people my opinion. There is a politically correct way of saying things and life is much more pleasant when you do so.

On the subject of EFI. I found the easiest way was to get the whole shebang from a donor 5.0 and s spd car as someone already suggested. I did elect to go with an aftermarket harness since it made the wiring 10 times easier for me. I don't know if it would be in your budget but it was well worth it for me. Fordfuelinjection.com is a great source of information and he makes quality products.

I had the most difficulty trying to figure out how and where to run the fuel lines. I eventually used a combination of 5/16" brake line and high pressure fuel hose. The connections between the hose and line I used two high pressure fuel line clamps. James W has a great site and is very informative. He will be a wonderful source of information on this topic.

another idea for adding efi to an early mustang is to use the megasquirt system. this is a system that is inexpensive, and you can either build it yourself, or buy the controller already built. either way you tune the system yourself with a laptop. you can have an ignition controller or not, and you can set the system up for flex fueling up to E85 with the addition of a flex fuel sensor. the really nice thing about the megasquirt is that you just biuld the electronics. you just add the efi hardware, like intakes injectors, sensors, etc. as needed. check out these sites;

Do you have a special deal on a donor 5.0 , or do you want fuel injection in general? If your heart isn't set on a 5.0 style intake you can have fuel injection AND have that old carb look (with a few extra wires and fuel rails visible). I bought an Edelbrock setup, and Mass-air (spelling?) advertises one as well. The Mega-squirt already mentioned also looks a little more old school than the 5.0, so everybody is happy. Make it run the way you want, and make it look the way you like.
