ok I got a egr question ,, is everyone still using there or is there a way to get around running the egr ? What are the pro and con of both ways(use/not use) ??

The EGR system has a vacuum source (line from the intake manifold) that goes to the EVR, computer operated electronic vacuum regulator. The EGR valve and the passages in the heads and intake manifold route exhaust gas to the EGR spacer (throttle body spacer). The computer uses RPM, Load. and some other factors to tell the EVR to pass vacuum to open the EGR valve. The EGR sensor tells the computer how far the EGR valve is open. Then computer adjusts the signal sent to the EVR to hold, increase or decrease the vacuum. The computer adds spark advance to compensate for the recirculated gases and the slower rate they burn at.

The EGR shuts off at Wide Open Throttle (WOT), so it has minimal effect on performance. The addition of exhaust gas drops combustion temperature, increases gas mileage and reduces the tendency of the engine to ping.

To add to jrichker's excellent description, there is no performance benefit to getting rid of it. As mentioned, it doesn't operate at wide open throttle. When it does operate - mainly at part throttle, low load conditions - it helps emissions and saves fuel.

Other than reducing clutter under the hood, there's no reason to remove it. And if you do remove it without using a chip to turn off the egr function in the ecu, there's a chance you'll have challenges with part throttle detonation.

both of the vac line on my egr are missing, well I know where one is but the other is missing/gone whatever so I just left both unpluged. Question is, should I pay to get it repaired or hooked up? gas is pricy and if that robbing me alot of gas, i'd pay to get it repair.

I'd get it fixed. If all your missing is the vac lines than I wouldnt think you'd need to pay anyone. I could disconnect and reconnect the entire vacuum system on my engine in less than 5 minutes.

If you want I can take some pics of how its set up, and where the EVR and EGR lines go.

Bah its ugly and you dont need it. I just beat mine off with a hammer. Put a few cracks in upper intake but Im sure its ok. If its being stubborn just use a bigger hammer and longer swings, the sucking noise makes it sound like you have a turbo!

Ok ok ok, you should probably use a tourqe-hammer so you dont hit it TOO hard you may crack the FPR, thats only common sense. If you got madd tools you could just cut it out with a plasma torch, make sure the cars running though so you can tell if you get a vacuum or fuel leak

i see that this tread has changed ,,, now I might call mine a hammer ,, but never would I beat mine with a hammer .... but back on the topic ,, after much review I think the best thing is not to fix some thing that is not broke ,,,, thanks for the replies !!!

Ok sorry for the hyjack. I was hoping someone would pick up on that Seriously though Im not sure what kind of difference blocking the egr off would make. Mine was blocked off when I purchased the car, the only thing I DO notice is the CEL Just make sure your not getting any vac leaks and leave it alone I'd say

might want to go read JR and Michael's first replies above. detonation is the biggest risk that i see.
