EGR Question

I was curious if anybody knows if any of the late fox body mustangs(mine is 93) came without an EGR on the 2.3L. My Ranger was a 92 and didn't have an EGR, and I would like to get rid of the one on my car.

If the answer is no, then does anybody have advice on the following...

When I put the throttle to the floor, the car accelerates sort of sluggish. If I let out slightly it'll go like I think it should. I tried a different TPS, but that didn't do a damn thing. I believe what is going on is that the EGR is opening and closing with the throttle movement, since it's vacuum operated. Any suggestions??? Is there a way that I can fool the computer to think I have the EGR hooked up if I disconnect it, kind of like MIL eliminators for O2 sensors???

My '90 car used to do something like that, and my beater Tempo will do it too. I don't know what causes it.

You can take off the EGR if you want, it's not hard. Just gotta block it off at the intake, and plug the hole in the exhaust manifold. I had the EGR disconnected on my '90 because I had a long tube header on it, I don't think the computer even cares if the EGR is there or not.

So when you removed the EGR on your 90, did it seem to quit having that problem??? If it remained, I'll look elsewhere for the cause.

Just unhook and plug the vacuum line to the EGR valve and see if that corrects your problem. If it doesn't then remove the EGR valve and see if it's sealing all the way by squirting a little oil in the exhaust inlet tube and seeing if it leaks out.

A properly working EGR system doesn't opperate at idle or WOT, so if you're certin that it's sealing properly then at WOT you have another issue.
