I was just wondering how you guys wound up getting your EGR off? I need to take it off to get clearance to get my head out. So if anyone has any input just let me know.
I assume your talking about the nut holding the egr pipe to the headers.........if so, I took an adjustable wrench and a hammer and went to work. Just make sure you've got the wrench clamped on super tight because they love to slip and strip.
The best and easiest way to get the the EGR tube off is to use a crows foot (not sure if that is the real name or slang, google it) an extention or two and a socket wrench. Keeps your hands out of the tight space, and it is so easy.
Just a quick question...Can you just remove the upper part by the nut...I just need clearance to get the heater hose off the lower intake and I cant get to it....I dont remember what I did to get it off when I did my intake swap
from up top........just keep at it you'll get it. It only took me a minute or two to dc it from the header.........and I'm the type of guy who has problems with EVERYTHING on this car. Just be patient and it will eventually work out. Did you try the crescent wrench/ hammer combo yet? It's not the prettiest/craftiest method, but it gets it done quick. Good luck man
I just went out and checked what size it was that fit and both the top and bottom nut on the EGR tube are 1". With the crows foot, extension, and socket wrench set up you also have enough room to use a breaker bar for extra torque to get it off. Some Liquid Wrench super penetrant will also help.
Thanks a lot...I was going to get the crows foot set from northern tool but it doesnt go up to 1 inch so I guess I am spending $40 on the craftsman set.
I thought it was a 24mm??? I just used a cresent wrench/hammer the first time. turned it both clockwise and counter clockwise to loosen it up Myne also was rusted up.
