EGR Valve going bad?

I have '03 Cobra 'vert that I believe may need the EGR valve replaced. On occassion it will die when pulling up to stop at a light or stop sign (clutch engaged). It also seems to idle rough to me. I had an '03 GT that I sold to buy the Cobra which idled much smoother. The only mod to the car at this point is a Borla catback. I've been doing some reading on the EGR valve, how it work - what happens when they go bad etc....sounds like my problems. Any suggestions or anyone dealt with this issue before. I'm not a motor head like most of the guys on here (I know some basic things) and this is my first supercharged car. If anyone can help....I would appreciate it....

The stalling when depressing the clutch and rolling to a stop is a common problem with the '03's and early '04's. You either need to take your car to the dealership and have them update your ECM's calibration to the latest code, or have a custom tune made. Either one will cure the stalling issue.

Checking your EGR is easy enough. It runs off vacuum and has a rubber diaphragn. Just connect a length of properly sized rubber tubing to it, after you remove the factory tubing, stick a vacuum pump on there and try putting a little vacuum on it. It should hold. If the rubber diaphragm is ruptured, the vacuum will go down very quickly. They really don't go bad that often but it can occur.

UM is pretty sharp, so he's probably got your situation figured out.

Thanks guys....when I go to the dealership, it is easy enough to tell them that I would like to have my ECM's calibration updated or will they look at me like a mule looking at a new gate?....Should I be prepared to pay them or do you know if there was a service bulletin for this problem at one time or another? Thanks again....

If the car is still under warranty the update of the calibration in your ECM will be free, otherwise you'll have to pay for it. Someone said it costs around $80 to have them reflash your computer. Just tell them your car is suffering from conditions outlined in SSM # 16293

SOME 2003 MUSTANG COBRA VEHICLES MAY EXHIBIT AN ENGINE QUIT CONDITION ON DECELERATION. THE ENGINE WILL RESTART IMMEDIATELY. THIS MAY BE CAUSED BY THE CALIBRATION OF THE POWERTRAIN CONTROL MODULE (PCM). TO SERVICE, VERIFY CONDITION & REPROGRAM THE PCM WITH THE LATEST CALIBRATION AVAILABLE VIA THE JUST IN TIME PROCESS IF YOUR WDS COMMUNICATES WITH FORDSTAR. CALIBRATIONS ARE ALSO AVAILABLE ON THE PROFESSIONAL TECHNICIAN SOCIETY (PTS) WEBSITE - SELECT 'WDS' THEN 'PCM REPROGRAMMING' AND CLICK 'INSTRUCTIONS' FOR DOWNLOADING. THE CALIBRATIONS WILL ALSO BE AVAILABLE ON WDS RELEASE B21.3.

Hey U.M. i no this thread is from a long time ago but i have a 2002 mustang 3.8 with 90,000 km on it and i am having similar problems occasional stall on roll up to stop light with cluch in or in neutral, and rough idle never will stall when idling though just when rolling. Could this be the same problem and could your solution fix it. I know mines not a cobra but this is really confusing me
