eibach springs on foxbody

hello i have a 92 mustang gt convertible i have a set of eibach lowering springs off a 97 cobra mustang convertible will they work on my foxbody? and how much will they lower my car? eibach part #front(3555.001)rear(3514.402) thanks for the help

Yes they will work, but hard to say how much they will lower. They are designed for a heavier car, with a different weight distribution than yours.

Chances are it will sit higher than normal, but who knows if it will be even

If they are the Eibach Pro springs (from a quick look on the net), then yes.

Also, it depends WHY YOU WANT TO LOWER YOUR CAR!

For a Fox vert, figure close to a 1.5 drop". Your vert weight is similar to the weight of an sn95 GT.

Yea, the weights are low. But, they got the specs from Ford.

As it is, 425/530 spring that lower a Fox/sn95 are for looks only! Anyone that tells you the "car handles better" is full of it.

Also, you will be at a much greater risk of bottoming out the car.
With stock K-frame, FCA, rear suspension, lowering a Fox/sn95 more than an 1" is purely FOR LOOKS ONLY and will HURT handling!

Then again, don't believe me. Look at what FORD did to their RACE ONLY 95 Cobra R (no ac, no radio, no power windows, no sale to general public, only 200 made and sold to race teams). The Race Only (circle track) 95 Cobra R was lowered 0.7" from a GT (1995 Ford SVT Mustang Cobra Specifications ). Also, the Mach1 and Bullitt have drops from 0.5" to 0.75" from the GT.

So, yes, the springs will work and lower the vert.
Will the tires rub? Maybe.
Will it be too low? That's your view. It's your car.
Will your handling improve? No ***ing way in this universe and reality!

Good Luck!

keep it real

hey man thanks for keeping it real thats what i,m talking about real talk no bull****...by the way the spring were free ..thats why i was asking but that for the info...tell me can you tell me anything about offsets i have a complete rearend out of an sn95 cobra and i plan on running the fr500 wheel 18x10 in the back someone told me the offset should be +45mm and some say +22mm can you help me?

Nice!

That brings up another point, the year of the Fox, and the isolators used.
New poly isolators can add ~1/4" height over the compressed original rubber isolators.

Also, how people put the spring in the FCA makes a difference. The end of the spring should be aligned between the 2 weep holes. See:
Spring install on a Mustang using the OTC spring tool

For The "B"/Eibach Pro springs, you may not need the OTC tool since the spring is shorter and it's not a "very stiff" spring.

[Edit: I fixed the typo for the width of the M179 rim. It should be 9" wide, and not 10".]

As for the backspacing, I'm not 100% sure for backspacing with 18" rims (they should be the same as 17" rims). But, for an sn95 rear-end/axles, you'll need more backspacing.

I have sn95 rear axles, and I run M179 17x9" rims. They have a +36mm offset instead of the typical +24mm offset. The FRPP M179 rims are no longer made. But, there is an aftermarket rim with the same specs and looks very similar.

An sn95 rear will extend the axles out. I forget the exact amount. It's something like ?0.75"? on each side. The brake sticky on the forum page should have that info.

Running wide tires on a Fox has a lot of issues. Most important, you get into manufacturing tolerances, and for the rear-end - rear-end shift to one side due to worn bushings. Also, some people are willing to roll their fender lips, and in the front, push the bottom of front quarter out a little (by modifying the brace, by baseball bat, etc). And, a number of people run spacers (often thin) to get the right spacing.

And, tire widths and heights differ even for the same tire size. Just check tirerack.com for the specs.

So, many threads on "what tire can I fit" turn into huge p**ssing matches.

Yes, it sucks because tires and rims are a huge expense to have to take a hit on if they don't fit! But, you are putting on a tire that is "too big" for the spec of the Stang. So, that's the risks.

Also, Ford did ?3? changes on the front fender and liner form to fit the bigger/wider wheels form 85 to 93. So, again, the year matters when you read about "I have a tire and rim 'XYZ" on my car".

And, any mods to the engine/car also effect how the car sits. Alum heads, battery in the back, etc all take weight off the front. A bigger radiator adds more weight because it holds more water and it has leverage over the front wheels.

So, guessing actual fender heights for a "random Stang with some springs" can be the same as guessing the lottery number.

FWIW: A 100% stock GT with proper tires, rims, proper tire inflation, etc will have the front fender sit ~27" +/- ~1/4" from the ground. So, it's always a good idea to see where a car is before starting any mods.

BTW: My car and specs, (those pictures don't have the M179 rims on the back)

That rear end will need to have it's disk brake setup modified to run the 10" wide SN95 rims. There are custom brackets designed for this, and you will need new axle shafts. If you put those wheels on the axle as is, you run the risk of hitting the tire on the fender lip on bumps.

i plan on running the fr500 wheel 18x10 in the back someone told me the offset should be +45mm and some say +22mm can you help me?

I fixed the typo in my post above for the width of the M179 rim. It should be 9" wide, and not 10".

Running a 275 width rear tire is hard enough on a Fox. Good luck running something wider.

Also, IMHO, 18" rims look stupid on Stangs with the ~11" sn95 rear disks. The rear disks look small, and the rim looks too ricer oversize. You can get big rear disk brake kits, they go for ~$1,500++. However, they are beneficial in braking ONLY for oval track type of racing that beats the **** out of any brake system. For the street, bigger rear brakes don't help. Especially if you're putting those soft and low springs on a Vert. The front dip during hard braking will put a lot more "weight" on the front wheels, and lift the rear-end even more.

So, for looks, bigger rear brakes will make 18" rims look better on a Stang. I'm also assuming 13" or 14" brakes up front for 18" rims. Otherwise, IMHO, the sn95 stock brakes and an 18" rim would look very ricer.

I'm not saying that it's not possible to have 18" rims and a decent looking Stang. I'm saying that it takes considering the whole package not to look ricer. IMHO, spending $$$$ on 18" rims and tires, and staying with stock sn95 brakes screams rice.

Good Luck!

thanks
