elec. fan wiring question

i got my tarus fan in my 93 Gt......as you probably konw it has 2 hot wires on it...i plan to use one for a toggle inside the car so i can switch it on in the staging lanes......the other i plan to use on a key switch wire.....my question is where can i find a key switch wire big enough to pull the fan???????

also what size fuse do i need to put on the fan??

I would use relays to control the fan. High speed will eat fan switches I bet. A bosch 75 amper would be my choice.

You're definately going to need a relay.. even on the low speed to be safe. It's not adviseable to hook a 12v ignition source up to something that draws that many amps at startup. I nearly burned down my old Jeep Cherokee by hooking the aux electric fan to a toggle switch.. as JT said, a 75 amp relay should handle the load of either the high or the low speed.

ok...wait...maybe im wrong...the fan has 3 wires...maybe ones a ground (black of course), ones a high speed hot and ones a low speed hot???? idk.....and where do i buy the relays and how do i hook them up...ive never used relays b4...just straight wiring a fuses....

i found a relay like that at Advance auto...but i dont know what lead is what....can you tell me what all 5 are for???

It might not hold up too great.

SImply stated, for a bosch style SPDT:

85: ground
86: switched 12 volts.

30 fused power from battery
87 goes to fan motor.

If it is a SPDT relay, 87Q is usually labeled 87A (it is the N.C. terminal) and it closes to terminal 30 when the relay is not energized. Some aftermarket relay, particularily ones for driving lights, will have two 87's (N.O. terminal) instead. Yours sounds like the former though. You dont need to use it in any case that I can foresee.
