I noticed a lot of you guys run electric fans on your stangs. I'm wondering what are some reccomendations for good ones?

I can tell ya right now the one not to get, thats the 3700N Hayden fan. Its a 16" fan (same as stock size) but the fan blades are smaller, and believe me, it moves a lot less air.

Those of you who may have saw my woodburn thread, I overheated a lot with this fan. It takes some serious amperage to run, so I ended up putting in an optima battery the other day, to see if that would help (I could run the fan longer) but still, even with the fan running all the time, I am on the high side.

Long story short, Hayden fan was a good waste of 89 bucks, anyone want to reccomend a good one?

As far as I am concerned, there is only one fan for a Fox body...the Black Magic 5.0

I run duals on mine, a 14 s-blade Zirgo on the temp sensor, and an 11 on a manual o-ride switch just in case, if ya stagger them diagnal, they just fit on the rad. Zirgos are made in Hills-borito, and sell out of a building in Tigard on 99.

Cool, I think I'm gonna hook that up. I have a few parts to put on here soon, so I think I'm going to start making my wish list and take a trip up to vancouver.

Once the car is started the fan runs off the alternator so your battery doesn't help. I used a set of dual fans from an 80's front wheel drive Chrysler product. They were $15. at my local Pull-it-youself wrecking yard. My other car has a Black Magic which is adaquate for our climate.

Not true at all, car runs off battery - period

The Alt is variable amp, stock is not enough for a E fan bigger the Flexlite BM.

SN 95 E fan needs a 130 amp alt to run.
(the best e fan out there)

I ran a BM fan on my fox and ran cooler with more HP to the wheels.

Well, it looks like my cooling system just got better.

While removing my electric fan today, I punched a hole in the radiator. Sure I could have it repaired, but I know how "radiator repairs" usually turn out. I wanted to buy a bigger one anyway, so now I just got motivation.

The funniest part is, last night I tell Jessica last night: "Its too dark to remove that fan, I'll do it in the morning so I dont punch a hole in the radiator by accident"

Yeah that really worked out for me. 9am this morning I put a whole in it, cutting those stupid holders.

So yeah, it looks like I'll be calling mac and getting a new aluminum one. And I'll probably call BOP and see if they have one of those nifty black magic's in stock. Heck, by the time this done I may even gain a couple tenths out of this whole mess.

Lookin pretty good!

I run a SN-95 ele. fan out of Eric's (aka WaterPog) car and it does the job.

I'll be running a SN95 fan as well as soon as I get my dc controler.

With all respect, I must disagree at least in part.

The car does not run off the battery. Once the car is running, you can disconnect the battery cable and the engine will continue running.

The battery is needed for intial startup since the alternator is not producing amperage with the key in the start position.

Once the engine is running, the battery does do a good job of acting as a "shock absorber" for eliminating system voltage spikes.

If your alternator is now underated because you've increased the electrical load on the car(stereo amps, elec. fan, fog lights, elec water pump, etc.), then the battery will be supplying additional amperage to run the additional accessories. That is until you deplete the reserve capacity of the battery and system voltage drops below 9-10 volts. Car will die and now your walking.

Essentially, they are both right. I need a better alternator, and a better battery.

The fan was drawing extra amps and running into the reserve of my current battery, because it was drawing more than the alternator put out when idling. Plus my battery was crappy, so it didnt have much reserve. Essentially, all the idling in the staging lanes was robbing battery power faster than the alternator could put it back.

However, with the optima, there is more reserve power. Therefore, I can idle, and start drawing more power then the alternator puts out, for a longer time, then once the engine is revved, the alternator puts the power back.

In theory, the battery is almost a capacitor, as stated, it absorbs voltage spikes, but technically, the car does run off the battery, and the alternator puts that power back. You can disconnect a car and run without the battery, and you can disconnect the alternator and run off the battery (for a while!)

If you want to get really technical, its the body of the car that produces the power. It is free standing electrons in the valence shell of the atoms in the steel that are truly being used to create electrical energy. (known as negative polarity, only because conventions once assumed power was generated at the "positive" side).

Thats why better ground = better power.

Idle amps on a fox is sick low, hence the need for a 130 amp alt..............

I ran my idle at 950 just to bring it up.

The better the battery, the more HP you will have....................

if you find something that works good, let me know please. especially if its local, that would be cool.

i tried the black magic fan on my car. gt40 heads, cobra intake, stock cam,bolt-ons. the car ran hotter by 30 degree's within a 3 mile drive. i brought it come and it was creeping over 200. with the stock fan i never saw over 170. nothing was touched except the fans were swapped.

it sounded like it was pulling alot of air, but it didnt cool for ****. this was on a 40-50 degree night also with my heater on and windows down. they say right on the box cools 250 hp without ac or similar. basically sounded like it would work for a stock car only, or LIGHT modifications.

good luck, ive also heard good things about the ramcharger fan setup, but im too broke right now to test anything out.

im running a heavy duty radiator with the Black magic electric fan kit and a 180 Degree thermostat. Whenever the car approaches 180 Degress the Fan is set to turn on and cool the car, and then turn of until 180 degrees. No problem so far. Also run a mix of "Watter Wetter" From redline oils. Its like 8$ and it works.

Well, I got the radiator today:

It doesnt fit how I'd like, and the fan shroud doesnt fit, but its keepign the car very cool right now.

We'll see how it does on a good hot day. What do you guys think, is the shroud really going to hurt??

I use that radiator in my 351 car. The shroud will help. You can get a decent electric fan at Pull a Part for less than $20. and if it doesn't work well you can return it within a month.

Be sure to get a rigid hold-down for that battery before you go to the track.
