i tried the black magic fan on my car. gt40 heads, cobra intake, stock cam,bolt-ons. the car ran hotter by 30 degree's within a 3 mile drive. i brought it come and it was creeping over 200. with the stock fan i never saw over 170. nothing was touched except the fans were swapped.

it sounded like it was pulling alot of air, but it didnt cool for ****. this was on a 40-50 degree night also with my heater on and windows down. they say right on the box cools 250 hp without ac or similar. basically sounded like it would work for a stock car only, or LIGHT modifications.

good luck, ive also heard good things about the ramcharger fan setup, but im too broke right now to test anything out.

You shouldn't have cooling problems. Your radiator could be partially clogged. If you are using underdrive pulleys you might consider reinstalling stock ones to aid the waterpump.

well it did. radiator is fine, im still using it now over a year later.

the only thing that was touched was the fan like i said. it didnt cool my car plain and simple. threw the stock fan back on and it was fine again.

i dont even use a shroud since it was removed from the previous owner. edit: no underdrive pulleys either. never installed them

I've read many complaints about the Black Magic being underpowered. For the mild NW climate, it usually works. It's made in Milton by the way.

i never knew about their hp/cooling ratings until i recieved it (225hp with ac/250 hp without ac i think it was). although it was at night, about 50 degree's and i had the heater on the second setting with the windows down. driving 3 miles at a 35 mph pace, i was already running 30 degree's hotter then normal.

by the time i got through my neighborhood again it was going over 200. so underpowered may be a fitting word. ive read mixed things about them, i can see it working on a higher hp car in combination with a really nice radiator maybe.

Thats funny...we have customers with pretty sick HP numbers running them without any complaints. Hmmmmm

Umm...yeah, if you dont have a good radiator and a beast of a motor...that MAY just be SOME of the problem! lmao A fan wont Bandaid a stock radiator with a 408 from getting hot

Well, I have a good radiator now, and I'm going with the black magic. There are a variety of issues that may have contributed to your problem. There could be coolant flow issues in your block, or power delivery issues. A bad power connection, or low amperage supply to an electric fan will cause it to perform poorly, and you wont even know it, as you can't hear them most of the time. Also it could be spinning slower than it should because of this.

I'm gonna go out on a limb and get the BM even tho I've never used one. I'm gonna let a pro install it (one of the Jeffs) so I know I wont screw up the wiring. I'll post my results here in this thread, or a new one.

worn out 302 with gt40 heads, cobra intake, stock cam.

180 thermostat, stock radiator. did i say i was running a powerhouse? how does that compare to a 408, please let me know.

As I said, I'll post my results here. I have a 302 with stock internals, 75mm throttle body, typhoon upper and lower, and jba headers. I'll let ya know how it goes.

I am. However, I have not run the car since putting decent tires on it, fixing my cooling issue, and removing a 100lb toolbox from my car. I expect to be doing better.

Next month I am dropping some 3.73s in it and putting an electric fan on it. If I dont get at least 14s or below, I am going to build another motor for it. This one doesn't seem tired, but it also isn't giving me the times I would like.

You haven't got many mods, but you should be running 14's, stock. My 87 ran 14.2 first time out. Did you advance your timing and remove the air silencer? We can get more out of that car. Let me know when you're going.

I'm running the timing at 12 degrees on the street, and I go from 12-14 at the track, with race fuel/ octane booster. I dont know what the air silencer is.

Basically, I'm starting to think the motor is just tired. It has 110-120 lbs in every cylinder, and doesn't burn oil, but it does run a second slower than comparibly built stangs. Tirespin has also been an issue, but the new tires helped last time I had it out.

I'm doing the gears, and a cam, and maybe some ignition stuff this year, and if that doesn't produce the results I want, I'm going to build another block over the winter.

I'll PM ya next time I go out.

Well, the black magic is being put on today, and as promised, I'll give you guys the full review. I trust I've been given good advice.

It doesnt look like its going to get really hot in the next few days, but I'm sure we'll have some nice hot august days to test with before the summer is over. I'll keep you all informed.

Well, as promised, I'll post my results. I had a faulty temp guage, so I couldnt really do it before now.

The fan is nice. It's kind of loud, which might bother some people, but frankly I dont care. The engine itself is still much louder. The fan doesnt stay on all the time (unless you want it to) so thats kind of nice, as it does use some power.

Though not a scientific test, this fan feels like it blows air as much or more as the stock fan did, which is better than the crappy elec fan I had on there before. Plus it has its own shroud.

After installing new temp guage, the car runs at about 180-190 during normal driving, about 65 degrees out.

I took the car out and hot rodded it pretty good, and made sure she was nice and warm, just got over 200 degrees.

Today was not very hot, so on the next hot day I'll do the same thing. I think its going to do just fine.
