So a kind of unique problem on my 91 Mustang. For BOTH the left and right mirrors, the switch will not activate 'down' nor will it activate 'right'. It will only go 'up' and 'left' and doesn't matter which mirror. I swapped out the lower part of the switch (the part with the four metallic pivots) with another used switch I had and no luck.

About six years ago the circuit had a big issue with three of the seven wires were nicked and or cut, as the harness somehow came loose from a clip and was shorting out on the E-brake. I spliced new wire on those three wires (good solder, jackets, etc.) and got the switch and everything working again. But recently this new problem. My continuity tester is shot, otherwise I could easily look at voltages without having to strip parts of the other four wires. Any ideas?

Thread 'How To Troubleshoot Power Mirror Switch'

Mar 27, 2016
This is just a quick guide on how to test your power mirrors for function before you replace a switch.

The switch will have 7 wires going to it.

Green/yellow = HOT
2 Black = ground
2 yellow = polarity ( important)

Then 4 other wires, blue, dark green, purple , red. These are the up/down/left/right for the mirrors.

To test Up and Left place a jump wire from the ground to the 2 yellows. Then jump a wire from the green/yellow ( hot) to any of the directional wires. These will cause the mirrors to go up or left.

To make them go down/right you change the polarity. You jump the...

I had an issue with my mirrors a few years back. Use the jump wire method to see if the wiring is good.
