i was just wondering if i was going to put some gauges on the a pillar or something if it would be best to use electric or mechanical are the stangs already set up for electric or mechanical? any info would help thanks.

90 notch

I would suggest running a search on this - there have been countless posts on this topic w/ lots of good info.

The stangs really aren't "set up" for either. Electrical are usually easier to install by nature; I chose electric oil pressure and mechanical water temp. and put them in a "gauge cage," which replaces the center vents.

What gauges do you plan to run?

a lot of guys say their air/fuel gauges are usesless - they just bounce around. They suggest that if you want one for "looks" go for it, but for practicality, save your money. I have 2 5/8 electric oil pressure, mechanical water temp (as noted above), and then a vacuum gauge. Vacuum gauges could be used to get decent fuel economy - try to keep as much vacuum as possible and you'll have the best mpg (vacuum is really close to 0 at Wide-Open Throttle).

I installed mechanicals in mine simply because i wanted the larger range of needle sweep.

For a pillar, I usually recommend electric oil pressure. I prefer Mike's set up with mechanicals though.

For water temp you can run mechanical without worry about leakin in the interior. Mechanical volt gauges dont work too well. :p

As James said, search and you will find tons of info.

Good luck.

Jerry, last time I checked, the full sweep electrics were kinda limited selection-wise, and as you said, quite $$.
I dont mind mixing so I run mech temp and elec OP.
