Electric Water Pump?

What do you guys think? As you guys know from some of my other post I am starting to button things up. But I am having thoughts of going with an electric WP. Although I really need to know if anybody is running them and which ones to chose since there are different GPM and other options.

I have the CSR one...that thing MOVES the coolant. I had an empty block, filled the radiator, turned on the EWP, and the rad was empty in just a few seconds.

I cant give you any mileage rates as I havent even driven it. It is also basically a race car, only on the street every now and then.

I have the CSR as well and it does its job.

i use the meziere pump.

I run the Meziere pump as well, and it was the best money I've ever spent. I can cooldown the motor between runs very quickly. Water temp is very consistent, and plus I was so happy to toss the thermostat, I hate those things. I just run a reducer in the water opening, I have a hot weather reducer and cold weather reducer.

Redsnk95 - What is your thoughts about one on a daily driver or a well driven street car?

I see they are rated at 3,000 hours or 50,000 miles before they need to rebuilt, right?

Is this worth the $400 price tag?

They price Tag is more my concern, because it looks like I am going to need the one with the idler and that one runs 429.00

It sounds like I might go with a regular pump just to get the car going then switch it over.

That is what I struggle with for your typical daily driver or true street guy.

$40 for a mechanical pump or $430 for an EWP?

EWP has more draw as well and actually has a rebuild time.

Now, mechanical pumps do not come with this rating if I recall. A good one can last you 100,000 miles, and maybe more.

I am still trying to see if the extra few HP is worth a couple of the "issues" that I see with it. They do look like very nice pieces though.

Electric motors are more prone to have problems, thats a given. They are pretty trick pieces but I dont think Id want one on a daily driver, thats for sure. Ive seen 5.0 water pumps last over 150K.

If an electric water pump decides to take a dump, you'll be stuck on the roadside going nowhere. A mechanical water pump might still get you home even if leaks quite badly as long as you have a can of water/coolant to keep topping up the radiator.

Some very good points here...I have made up my mind to go with the mechanical pump.... for now Top reasons being that I need to get the car running and the mechanical pump is cheaper to put in, and since I really would only buy that part new due to reliabilty....The car really wont be a daily driver but i dont want part like that going bad later....

They a worth the money though. About 28 bucks a horse.
