alright this is selfinduced, completely!! last night i was messing around with mu 69 putting on some old weatherstripping and when i was done didn't close the door.

well this morning the battery was almost dead.wouldn't start. so i went to give it a jump(i'm still asleep) and put the jumpers on crossed. well it smoked the alternator.
now for the questions
1. when i took the old one off the ground (gnd)wasn't connected???????????????
how could this work?
i've had that alternator on it for 4 years and no probs.
should i hook it up on the new one?

just thought this was strange, thanks for any input

do you guys think this hurt anything else?

The car chassis itself should be grounded, so I would have to guess the alternator was grounded by its housing being secured to the car.

You are very lucky you didn't fry the batteries. Not pretty, explosions and acid showers could have occurred.
