Electrical plug on my AOD: what does it do?

I have an AOD from a 1992 GT HO thats going in a 41 Mercury. I cant figure out what the plug near the kick-down linkage does. My only guess is a gear control to turn off the overdrive.

The plug connects to a pigtail (about a foot long), and does not connect anywhere to my painless wiring harness. i didnt count, but i think there are about 5 or 6 wires in the plug.

Helpful info: I am not running smog, egr, or cruise-control.

If this does not need to be hooked up for anything, that may be helpful. However, I would like to figure out a way to turn off the overdrive when needed.

Well i am not 100% but I would bet that is for your reverse lights unless it is aftermarket wiring-in which case it could be for O/D delete. I don't know what the wiring for reverse light s looks like but it is the only FACTORY wiring on an AOD trans.

AODs didnt have O/D delete until the SN95 versions, so if you want it you will need to add a Lentech valvebody.

I just did, and I am very happy about it!
