Hey

I have a 90 mustang convertible, and I shorted a wire somewhere. There was smoke coming from the steering column. The ignition key won't crank the starter, although the accessories come on. (Ie. radio, wipers, hazards, horn)The convertible top doesn't work, the directionals don't work, and also the heater blower. Any suggestions as to where to start looking for the short?

Thanks

well to find the cause you would need a manual with the wiring harness in it. What did you do to cause the short? most wires in the steering column are bundles so you may have a pinched wire that is causing the short. check all your fuses also. well the shop manual will give an idea as to where to start your wire search. find all ignition wires, and locate any wires to the convertible top if there are any in the steering column. hopefully it is an easy fix such as a ripped wire insulation and a blown fuse. good luck
