Hey guys i recently bought a 200amp alt and a optima yellow top, i also bought new battery terminals the gold one, and also bought a new selonoid, Heres the problem i hook everything up and when i connect the postive side of the cable to the battery the engine acts like its going to turn over then stops and on of the wires start to smoke, I dont know if i put the wires on the seloniod wrong, if anyone has any ideas or pics of the way yours looks right now that would be great,

There's a few ways I've seen them done depending on the year of the car. But based on your description I suggest putting the wire to the starter all by itself on one post of the solenoid. All the rest of your 12v constant wires join the cable that goes to the battery on the other large post of the solenoid. There is a small red wire shaped like an L that goes to the small post on the solenoid.

Solenoid wiring: 86-90 models: All of the wires go on the solenoid terminal for the battery EXCEPT the one wire that goes to the starter & the wire with the push on connector that fits over the small screw post on the solenoid.

The only excetion to this is if your car has a high torque mini starter on it. The high torque mini starter is a popular mod for many stangs.
