I found out a lot about this... I think it will be an easy pass for me... Everyone is selling their off road h pipes and getting all scared!!! Find a mechanic your friends with!!! You will pass!!! They will just over see the visual check... MIL eliminators if you have em and your light isnt on... You can pass!!! Just thought I would share my insight on this!!!

It varies depending on where you live in PA.
Around here, 1996 and newer get a quick visual to ensure that nothing has been disabled or removed, and a computer based check. 1995 and older get a quick visual and the just gas cap checked.
However, if you have less than 5K miles since your inspection last year, you can ask for an exemption.

i dunno if they do it in PA, but in california they have these "undercover" cars that get sent to the smog shops that should not pass an inspection. if they pass the BAR(Bureau of Automotive Repair) goes in and shows the video to the people and they get a nice big fine and they have to go to a recert class. so ya they might pass you as a "friend" but they will still get nailed because a lot of times the BAR has people across the street with video cameras watching the smog shops
