I live in Wisconsin, and they still test cars from 1968 and up for emissions. My mustang is a 68 coupe with a 302 engine. It has an edlebrock carb and manifold, headers with dual exhaust, and a mild cam. I have to take it for a test soon, so does anyone have any suggestions before I go?

Make sure the carb is adjusted properly and not running too rich. Also, take it out for a nice long rip before you go for the inspection. The warmer the engine, the cleaner the burn. Try to find a shop that won't bust your balls on a classic car. Good luck!

All good advice. When I had to get my older cars smogged, I retarded the timing and leaned out the carb as much as I could without the engine dying. I even went as far as loosening up the carb so it would suck more air. Of course, I didn't let it run too long like this. In fact, as soon as it passed, I drove it out and turned a corner and gave it a tune up by ear till I got home.

I don't know if your state requires that you have all original emission equiptment, but you may have better luck if you find a shop with a pimpled faced kid who hasn't seen an older car. Good luck.
