Here we go boys & girls. I have a 65 stang that had a 6cly auto in it. I have put a 85 couger v8 with auto (aod?) tranny in it. All didn't go well! Engine mount didn'tfit right, got another set and they worked. Now I've been to every parts place on the internet(I'm just dreaming) to find a transmission bracket that that will work ( it has to have a off set). The new tranny sets about 2 in further back. Where can I find someone that has what I need.I've modified or made them back when they didn't have any place to look. I also have a problem with the drag link (center) the 6cly one is straght and won't work. The one for the v8 should work but it has to fit to a v8 spindle. Now with the v8 spindle you have to change out or over from the v6 system. Correct Lots of dollars and time. Safty first OK but I know that isn't going to help. You change out the end ball jionts. The wieght of the engine isn't much of a problem if you have a strong undercarage (not a rustbucket). The braking isn't a real bad facter if you don't cary 6 people (2-300lbders and 4-250lbders). Now who or where can I get the right drag link to fit, or one that has to have the ball joints changed out. Now this is not going to be a drag car, just something to run and look good (speed will not be over 150 mph all the time) I hope some one can help. I would like to be crusing in a few weeks. I would do the modifaction here but its in fl and I have to contend with an older brother and a lazy son, with no equipment to do it with there. Please HELP. Thanks Jacktucker

You might try swapping the engine mounts to see if it helps the transmission mount fit. The AOD is real close to the size of a C-4 or FMX. Otherwise try some of the classic Stang suppliers for an AOD cross member that fits a 65-66.

the problem with the drag link is not the drag link, technically, but the oil pan... you need the front sump pan and pick up for an early mustang (or just about anything, as long as it is not a 4wd truck, van, or "fox" chassis, which your cougar is) also, if your engine has the dipstick through the oil pan, you need either an early timing cover, or drill a 3/8" hole into the boss in the timing cover where the early windsor engines had the dipstick. (this is best done with the cover off the engine, so the shavings dont end up in the oil pan, but you are changing that anyway, right?) as for the trans mount, most any of the parts suppliers (mustangs unlimited, npd, etc) can fix you up for about 100.00 or so... i guess the good news is you dont need to change the front suspension over YET, but after you drive this beast, you will probibly understand why everyone is going to the disc brake, upgraded suspension setup on these cars, it just makes the so much more fun to drive, not to mention SAFER!!!
