My daily driver '67 coupe with a 289 finally gets to become my garage project car!!! YEAH!!! Just picked up a little Ranger for daily use. Anywhoo....

I'm wanting to build an engine from scratch and have zippo experience in doing so.

I'm thinking 351 for street and strip use putting out in the neighborhood of 400 horses at the flywheel.

Can anyone recommend some goods books for engine building?

Thanks!

I've got one titled How To Rebuild Your Small-Block Ford that was pretty helpful ... Don't remember who wrote or published it tho.

That one is George Reid. Here are a few more to consider:
Ford Windsor Small Block Performance, Isaac Martin.
How to Build Max Perf. Ford V8's on a Budget, George Reid.
How to Rebuild Ford V8 Engines, Tom Monroe.

You may want to consider the Engine/Parts Interchange Manuals as well. I have each of the 3 above, and am trying to find time to read them. Our baby keeps me busy! Check out amazon.com. I usually find good prices there, and you can find used copies pretty cheap and in good/excellent condition. It also gives recommendations of similar titles that you may want to consider.

Good luck!

Building Ford Short Track Power: Official Factory Guide

I used and recommend this book. It is how to build budget power for circle track racing, but is a very nice general how-to book. It specifically instructs you how to build a 450hp 351 (actually 357 ci). They use Ford's inexpensive 10 degree NASCAR iron heads, but you can use what ever you want. It is very good with respect to step by step instructions with all the technical specs you need. I have a bunch of engine building books and that one is the most recent and best, IMHO.
