Engine Cut-out At Red Line

sorry if this has been posted before; didn't find anything in a search. just noticed that my 09 GT's engine cuts out at high rpm's (6000+). it runs fine up until then, and as soon as you back off the throttle it runs fine again. seems like a computer thing to me because the stopping and starting of the engine is very abrupt; there's no sputtering or any kind of weird noise. dials and gauges and everything still work. bought the car new in 09; has less than 5K miles on it. can't remember if the standard warranty was 3 years or five years; if it's 3 years, it just ran out a couple weeks ago. would appreciate any ideas.
 
It's called a rev-limiter and it's programmed into the cars computer to prevent damage from over revving the engine.

Your car came with a standard 3 year, 36000 mile warranty from Ford.

Don't really know what else you want to know as far as wanting "any ideas".
 
It's the factory rev-limiter. It reduces fuel (inducing a lean condition) to prevent damage to your engine from over-reving. Even with a warranty, engine damage resulting from excessive engine speed (over-reving) will not be covered. In some cars the computer will "catch" such a condition and a service technician can pull that data...

That is not a completely accurate description of what takes place. Simply inducing a lean condition won't cause the engine speed to decrease.

The PCM commands alternating fuel injectors to turn completely off when it senses a vehicle and/or engine over speed condition. It will continue to do so until the over speed condition is no longer present. One or more of the following DTC's P0219 (engine over speed condition), P0297 (vehicle over speed condition), or P1270 (engine RPM or vehicle speed limiter reached) will set if the over speed condition is present long enough.
 
okay everybody, thanks for the info. :-) i thought it might be something like that, but wasn't sure. i don't drive the car very much, and i guess i never had it over 6000 rpms before. probably a good thing it's there, so i didn't screw up the engine. thanks again.
