Hey Guys, I forgot my password for my old account here since its been awhile.. but..

I have a 96 gt, no mods really just stock and clean.. I was driving home from work the other day got it into 3rd gear on the highway and sounded like I had a bag of rocks under my hood, I quickly went to pull over but by time I made it to the shoulder the car turned itself off.. had it towed home and apparently I had a oil leak that I did not know about.. car will not start.. just makes a clicking noise when I hit the key (the starter firing?) where do I look? or does anyone know a good place to look for a replacement motor?

yeah sounds like you seized the motor. I would drop in a 99-04 motor, it's a direct swap.

..

Is the lincoln motor a direct swap? I am a Shadetree mechanic, if I can find it in a book or directions I can do it.. but..

is the computer the same for the 5.4? wiring harness, etc?

also same question on the 99-04 motor what all do I need? I can make a junkyard trip anytime

no the lincoln motor will be a lot of work, but a 99-04 mustang motor is a driect swap and you will pick up 40 horse or so.

OK, so when I go and get it, what all do I want the whole engine, wiring harness or is it the same? and the computer? or will mine work?

Please send me a private message, using this current account you are posting with, with a current email address for the old account to use. Please also give me the exact screen name of the old account. Again, send this information to me via Private Message. I am glad to help. :nice:

ouch, sad to hear that, get a lincoln 4V 5.4 L instead, 300 hp aluminium block
Post technical information/help in the Tech sub-forums or do not post at all. Your comment does not solve any problems the thread starter is experiencing. Thank you.

you just want the whole engine.

use your exsisting harness, everything is the same except you will have a extra water temp sensor. the easy solution for this is a t-fitting to run both temp sensors in the same intake fitting. or if you have time to kill you can try and drill and tap a hole for the second sensor.

in fact it's such a plug and play swap that you would be silly to get another NPI motor unless your getting it for free.

What about using a 98 engine? I got a really good deal on a tested and working used engine which I will go over before I put in, but is that a direct swap? someone at the car place told me it would be alot of work which I am unsure why they said that I thought a 98 was a direct fit?

the 98 engine is NPI, and if they told you a 99+ engine would be a lot of work then they don't know what they are talking about but yes the 98 engine is the same direct swap but with 40 less horsepower

all you do is reuse everything from the old NPI motor that is blown, you don't use the COP ignition from the 99+ you just use the coil packs and plug wires

Dave if you're thinking on future power gains you should just spend the cash on a 99+ motor, unless you're just sticking with non-moding it go the cheaper route with the 98

Yeah I would love to do the 99 route, but I dont have cash for a crate motor either and after calling several junkyards and having them all search the database for me the only one who has a 99+ motor is a 03 cobra and they want $3200 from the Junkyard.. the closest year I could find is a 98 GT..

Now, my 96 I have the PI conversion done on it already so I can just pull most of that off the old and put it on the 98 and if I pick it up tomorrow he is going to give me another 25% off.. tested and guaranteed and has 33k miles on it

sounds like a winner to me, 25% off and you DO have the headswap, so the 99+ difference is already gone, just make sure you reuse the headswap you did from the old block.... assuming the heads are not damaged.

I thought you said you have no mods? well in that case take the heads and intake off of your old blown motor and put them on the NPI 98 motor.
