engine knocking?

I have a 92 lx 5 speed with 113,000 miles. There seems to be a knocking or tapping from the drivers side bank, but only in 2nd gear. Every other gear it runs smooth and strong. When I rev it at idle it doesnt make the noise either. I'm at a loss here.

Also, it doesnt smoke, runs around 180 degrees, and according to the stock guage ( which doesnt mean *****) the oil pressure is fine.

I have a strange knock also, it comes from the drivers side also....
I dont think my car overheated either, i drove it normally and it did it. Its been doing more lately... I have an AOD so i dont know about the 2nd gear... Does your knock start going fast if you romp on it??
Like mine will knock really fast, not with the engine RPM...

I've been told it may be the timing chain...
