engine mount to engine, bolt removal *help*

have the cran hooked up and ready to go but i cant get to the one bolt on the passenger side up by the starter. The dam k member is in the way of my wrench. Any tips would be great. Thanks
 
It sounds like you're pulling the engine? If so, there's one nut that holds the motor mount to the k-member; remove that nut and pull the engine w/ the motor mount attached. You can pull the mount off of the block when you get the engine out.

You don't want to try to put the engine back in and line the bolts up to attach it to the motor mount; it will be much easier to just get those bigger bolts back into the k-member. And...by the way, the motor mounts are side-specific. Be sure and mark which side they go on. If you're getting new ones, be careful which side you put them on. If you put them on the wrong sides, the engine will sit back toward the firewall a couple inches and won't line up.

Thanks for this info man. Yeah im pulling the engine and trans together. Doing trick flow topend and installing tko 600. You know whats funny, I saw the one bolt on each mount your referring to and i said that cant be it. so i started undoing the two bolts i dont need to undo. Thanks again

If you haven't pulled it out yet, a load leveler might help if you're pulling the tranny and engine together. That's what I did. I got my load leveler from a local industrial store (Grizzly's) and it worked, but I wasn't completely satisfied w/ that particular one. If you choose to go that route, you might ask around about a good brand. The problem I had was that it was kinda hard to rotate the handle, which may or may not be an issue w/ other brands. I get the feeling it was hard to rotate due to the 375-400 lbs of engine bolted to it, but maybe others as better. Who knows.

The load leveler is the red thing (obviously) and does not come w/ the hoist. My load leveler was around $20-30 I think. The reason to use one is obviously to level the load, which is extremely helpful when pulling the tranny too because it's not real easy to angle it in and out of the tranny tunnel. I don't know if it's possible to pull the engine and tranny together w/o a load leveler, but I wouldn't try it myself. Make sure you have everything disconnected (including ground wire from head to firewall) and the engine should come out fairly easily. Mine took me about 30-45 min to pull out and about the same to put back in (not counting attaching/(un)bolting things.

Thanks again. Yeah i have a load leveler i bought at the auto parts store. It wasnt as easy as i thought. I had it angled all the way to get the front out and then when I got the tranny clear of underneath the car (tunnel area), it was a real bitch to get the crank to turn to level the whole assembly to get the unit out of the car. It must be the weight of those heavy pos iron heads, lmao
