engine noise

I took my car out for a drive and was getting on it a little here and there, then i noticed the car felt like it lost a little power but i didnt hear anything. A few hours later i went out and started it up and it sounded like the back of two big metal spoons were smacking each other. What did I break this time? I have to leave for school in 2 days. i need this fixed! tell me what you think it is. thanks

pull the valve covers off and take a look in there...or was it a knock like from the bottom end......

the sound is coming from somewhere on the passenger side, dont think its the bottom end. what stuff makes a noise like what i said.

i got the valve cover off, now what to do.

wow your not fuggin around....look for broken spring's...loose rocker's..anything not normal. Maby adjust the rockers while your in there...Might just be a leaky header or a exhaust leak somewhere.

all of the springs look ok, i can wiggle the rockers a little. if i start the car will oil get all over, or will it be ok?

should be ok for a little bit....oil will splash around a little

Pull out a couple of the pushrods and check to see if any are bent. Check your collector and exhaust make sure they're not hitting anyting metal. Check your motor mounts.

It may be your rockers are loose, or it could be valve noise, you have to narrow it down. Or quite possibly the header bolts are loos and it s leaking there, Does it make the noise all the time, or just when you are excellerating ??

2 of the header bolts were a little loose but i tightened them and it is still making the noise.

Just a wild thought here, if you checked everything else have you checked the timing? I assume you know to pull the spout connector before setting it. Sometimes you can get a knock from too much advance however your knock sensor should retard the timing when this occurs I guess I'd check it to be sure. 10 degrees and see if it goes away. Otherwise I'd agree it sounds like valvetrain, bent pushrod banging around etc.
