Heyy I wanted to get some answers and knowledge from some of you true mustang owners out there so I got a 2001 mustang gt like a month ago it has arnd 115k miles but i took it to firestone and got it inspected and they told me I have a cracked manifold and seems like the last owner put some different fluid in the reservoir which cause it to get all gummy substance in the reservoir n they said they would have to flush it out but rn I have no antifreeze in the car so tomar I have work I’m the morning n I dnt have time to get antifreeze so I was gonna fill it with water for now and I wanted to know what type of antifreeze your guys use and is it ok to use water atleast for now

Welcome to Stangnet!

If I may make one suggestion, please use some punctuation the next time you post. We can usually deal with some misspellings here and there, but having one long run on sentence like you posted makes it very hard to understand what your question is. We're here to help, so anything you can do to make it easier for people to read you post will make it easier for members to respond.

I'm assuming by cracked manifold, you're talking about the intake manifold being cracked since you're losing coolant. That's a fairly common problem on the 4.6 motors in those years. You're going to have to replace the intake manifold. Are you planning on doing this yourself or are going to have a shop do it?

You can use water, in a pinch, if you don't have antifreeze around (and the temperature isn't going to drop below freezing), but I wouldn't keep it in any longer than you have to. Water obviously has no anti-corrosive properties which anti-freeze does. I run straight water in my track vehicles and you should see how much rust/corrosion comes out of the system every year I drain it. The biggest question I would have for you is how bad is the leak from the intake manifold? I've seen those split so bad that you couldn't keep enough coolant in it to make it down the street, while others were just steaming off. You don't want to run your engine without any coolant as that will cause much bigger issues. You need to get that intake manifold fixed.

Just don't run the water long and use distilled water, electroylisis is bad news especially with aluminum/cast iron together.

I use Havoline conventional Green antifreeze, we use it at work and it seems to do well.
