Engine Question

Well car is at the dealer now they said i spun a bearing on #4. Is this a normal thing that has happend to anyone else or just me. Also I bought the car used with 63K miles on it and i take it that was the stock engine. now another quesiton that comes to mind is with the spun bearing they are putting a remanufactured engine in. now would u rather have a engine with 63K miles on it or a re manufactured engine?

Also I was considering doing some hood work. I know we would all love super chargers or NOS but would cutting out the fake intake on the hood and making it into a real intake and routing it to the TB give my engine a performance gain. I know its not pushing alot more air in but would it work. If so any pros or cons?

how many miles were on the engine when it spun the bearing, 63k? I'd rather have a rebuilt (remanufactured) engine than one with 63k on it anyday.

I seem to remember a guy taking the honey comb out of the scoop but it caught too much air and he thought it was going to rip off at highway speeds.

Will - you need to do a little research here. Are you sure you can't buy a fresh short block with a forged bottom end for what the dealer is charging you for the remanufactured motor?

:stupid: Yup, if you're going to spend the money for a motor, why not upgrade at the same time. I say this because once you start to do performance mods (it never ends) you never know where you'll end up. you might want to add a blower, nitrous, turbo later on.. then you'll be set up to handle the extra strain that a stock engine might not be able to. Just my opinion.
good luck on your engine which ever way you decide:)

as much as I would like a forged engine right now I can't afford it. between jobs and very little extra cash to spend. Also has anyone looked at the Sean Hyland 4.6's. I was looking at them and they look nice to me but i am still green when it comes to modding my car.

Personally, I wouldnt touch a motor from SHM. That is very odd that it spun a bearing at such low miles. Seems like someone ran it with low oil. How much oil was in it when you bought it?
