Went to set the timing a bit better today and we set it at 16* at idle with the spout out. Now when we got to rev it up with the spout in it goes to 40-42* Isn't that a bit much...is that dangerous. The car is untuned (professionally) and will be that way for a long time...what are ya'll's thoughts on that.

Right now there is a slight mix of 87 octane with some 93 octane...

Would the idle speed (around 800rpm I believe) make the idle timing more even with the spout out?

Just curious on your thoughts...

Oh and I parked the car after about 40 minutes of driving and heard a hissing from the back of the intake after I shut the car off, it continued for about a minute and a half. I was thinking maybe one of the heater core hoses weren't tight...but there is nothing leaking from what I can tell. It appears as air escaped it got slower as the pressure subsided. Sounded like "air" more than "water"...a hissing sound? Ideas to check?

Also my headliner (not engine tech:)) came loose when my windows were down...what is some good "sticky" stuff to mat it back down?

Thanks guys!

You can get some spary adhesive from most craft stores that will work to re-tak your headliner onto the backer board. The problem is that I don't know how long it'll stay like that.

Hey 5 speed GT!

I think the timing would be alright @ 40 advanced with 16 base, seems a bit high, but according to accutron and haynes advance can be 20 to 30 degrees. That is just my 2 cents, I am sure someone else will know for sure.

As for the leak don't know, but the headliner I can help with. First is it undone between the fabric and the foam, or from the foam and the headliner board. Most likely it is from the fabric coming loose from the foam. If that is the case it is time for some new fabric for the headliner. It is easy do to, and fabric is pretty cheap from a upolstery dealer. If you need a quick fix try using some thin double sided tape between the foam and fabric. Spray adhesive does work, but since the actual fabric is thin and porous it has to be almost completely dry on the foam before pushing the fabric against it. You take a chance of the glue soaking through and that looks no better than staples.

If you have any question about replacing the headliner fabric, just post back, I have done several over the years and can give you some tips.

Thanks for the responses guys!

What's up backfocus? The skin (fabric) is detaching from the foam. I guess I'll have to get some new headliner someday and I'll get a hold of you;)

Anybody help me with the timing ideas?

David, perhaps this chart, courtesy of TMoss (author) and S&2B's (site host) will provide some rough answers.

I dont like to toss out numbers because so many things affect the total timing (EGR function, etc).

Sounds like things are coming along nicely! Congrats!

Thanks bud:) I have the "auto" computer (5spd conversion)...so that may change things up a bit...it doesn't seem like my timing is to far off...just curious on other's thoughts:s I'm going to check the oil and make sure I don't have any coolant/water in the oil and if I don't I'll consider myself good to go...

Quick question for those with new bottomend...would it shock you to see "dirty oil" after 15-20 minutes of driving time? My oil was a darker/dirty color...but I was thinking it is probably that assembly lube/moly lube used for the bottomend all getting "washed out"...anyone else with a similar experience or thought?

sup 5speed

just want to recommened to use 3M headliner adhesive as it will hold up to those hot summer days. most spray adhesives will not hold up to the heat over time. message me and ill tell ya how to redo the whole headliner. what color interior do you have as i have brand new role of it layin around the house. i think mine is medium grey
