Okay, lately since I've done the intake swap, the engine seems to be sputtering. It's more noticeable around 3000+ rpm, and it doesn't do it all the time. I'll be looking at the tach, and notice it jump from 2800 to 3000 all of the sudden when it sputters. Could this be timing related? Or do you think it's something more serious? I'm thinking the timing might be retarded a little bit, since I never set it after swapping the intake. I marked the distributor before I pulled it out, and put it in the same way, but I guess it could be off a little bit. What do you guys think?

have you pulled codes? checking timing is always good, but if i had to guess, i would lean toward the PIP or TFI goin out (the tach jumping is a sign).

good luck.

No CEL is coming on. What is the PIP and the TFI?
PIP = Profile Ignition Pick up. it is inside the dizzy bowl and sends the signal when to fire spark.

TFI = thick film ignition (module). it is the grey module on the side of the dizzy. it works with the PIP to decide when spark should be sent.

good luck.

i think its timing even though you marked it how can you be 1oo percent shure it didnt move a tooth or two if this would be your case the you can be off soo do youre self a favor and time it with a gun and rule one thing out

Yea I've been meaning to check the timing. But my dad jacked my timing light and LOST IT!!! now I have to get another one tomorrow and I'll check it tomorrow night. I hope it's just the timing, cus I haven't even HEARD of those other things. :( :bang:

Well I put my throttle body on tonight, and since I picked up a new timing light I decided to check my timing while I was at it. It turns out when we were putting on the intake last weekend, nobody tightened down the distributor hold-down bolt! :bang: My distributor was pretty loose. My timing was WAY off!! So we set it back to 10*, I think that is stock right? Anyway, no more sputtering! The throttle body helped out nicely too.

hey nice work. i figured you had the basics figured, so that was a good catch by Shttygtstang. :)

glad to hear it is fixed. nice work!
