Hello everyone !

I`m form Poland and have big problem. I have 1995 5.0 with aode and always want to t5, so i bought another mustang to swap transsmision. The other car is 1994 5.0 T5. Both car are stock, mine have only changed exhaust. So I wanted to swap everythig that is needed from aode to t5. So I go that way and after week was time to first start with trany. I used everything from other car (clutch, preasure plate etc.) becouse here in Poland I can buy only gas and tyres... :/

So my problem is when I first start the motor everything seems to be OK, gear are working, clutch to, engine start normaly but, I've discovert that my engine has not work like before. it start to bounce, sway vibrate, and when i hit gas pedal this vibration was very hard, whole car starts to shake. :/ I've forgot to translate pilot bearing form other car (must to this now) but i dont think that could have connection with this vibrate. I think that is somting wrong with fly wheel, both engines should have 50 oz. imbalance. mayby you could help me ?

here in Poland nobody can help me, we don't have cars like this so last hope is in your hands.

here is photo of flexplate take off from my gt:

and flywheel form this other car:

is this flywheel good ?

like I have read alot about swap and it should work good but someting is wrong, car is not driving now, I take off t5 agiang and tommorow I want to translate pilot bearing.

both cars works good before swap.

Yes I thing, flexplate is for auto, so i took flywheel from t5 car and put to mine, this flywheel fits only in one position. so i bolt it up.

Did you install the tranny crossmember correctly?

its directional.there should be an "R" and "TOP" stamped on it.

R means driver side,if i remember correctly.

ok I'll check crossmember but have a question, do need to balance this flywheel to my engine ? or it should work good already ? and is it possible that my flexplate is 28 oz. ? flexplate don't have any info on it and I don't know is it 28 or 50 oz. ? I`ve read that ever late 302cui have 50oz but now I`m confused and don sure about it :/

No balancing needed.you need to install the pilot bearing.if the flywheel came out of a 94 5.0 than it should be the correct one.

thats your problem right there. if you have the stock rubber piece throw it back on there and it will go away. if not, thats what you need.

A couple of other thoughts. The lack of the pilot bearing can obviously make a difference.

Did you install or reuse the dowels that go between the engine block and the bellhousing?

Did you install the dowels that go between the flywheel and the pressure plate (on your clutch)?

Obviously, if you can, use a new pilot bearing. They are not expensive in the U.S. but I dont know about in Poland. You'll damage the old bearing when you remove it (brinneling, damaging the bearing-race otherwise, etc).

If everything else seems ok, make sure you didnt pop a spark plug wire off during the swap.

Good luck and it's neat that you're posting here. I like seeing international enthusiasts.

do you have the stock transmission mount from the t5 car? the poly mount is more rigid than the stock rubber mount and transfers the vibrations from the drivetrain all throughout the car. the same thing happened to me on my clutch swap. i could have sworn i did something wrong but all i had to do was swap the mount and everything was back to normal.

but my car engine and whole car i shaking on idle when rpm is about 900. a couldn't test it while im driving becouse I was afraid that something could happen.

I finished my tool today, will it work ?

working procedure is very simply, this thing should by putted into bearing and when bolt start to drive into bash splited tip of it should start to enlarge and grab bearing then bolt will touch crankshaft and slowly push bearing backwords.

this is only theory I'll see in practise.

For the pilot bushing, the grease trick works well too... pack grease into the bearing and drive a punch that barely fits into the bearing into the grease. after a couple of tries the grease will force the bushing out...

I think this is your problem.

Does your flywheel have a part number on it (if you have your trans out and can check)?

I'd check the balancers on both engines. Both should be 50 oz imbalance. If both balancers are 50 oz, then both the old flexplate and the flywheel should also be 50.

I just wanted to ask all the people who suggested anything other than the pilot bearing, WTF were you all thinking? This was the most obvious problem I think I've ever seen on this board!! You get vibes from reversed x-member and poly mounts, but NOT shaking!! When the clutch disk was out of alignment because of the absense of the pilot bearing, it was causing all kinds of chaos. Plain and simple!

Kudos for salvaging the pilot bearing... word to the wise, order 2 or 3 of them now, so you'll have them in the future. They do fail, and yours will most likely fail faster now that you've swapped it into another car.
