Engine Stuttering?

Hey there, I've got a 1994 5.0 GT, and I'm having a few problems with the engine stuttering/hesitating.

Firstly, what I've done is replace the spark plugs, plug wires, distributor cap, rotary button, and the fuel filter.

I'm not exactly car savvy, so I don't know what I need to try next.

Basically, the problem is, while I'm driving down the road accelerating my engine will heistate, and it will miss. Also, when I start the engine it doesnt idle up to 1000 RPMs right away, it acts as though it wants to die. I have to give it gas to get it idled properly.

I'm just wondering what the next step would be to troubleshoot this issue and get it solved.

Thanks in advance!

Well, considering what you have done, that eleminates the plug and wire issues. Any codes???

I would check the TPS voltage and do a sweep and check to see that the volatage makes a clean climb consistant with the movment of the throttle plate. No dead spots or spikes should be detected.

Then I would check the MAF to be sure it is clean. Check it's output voltage to be sure it is reading as well as being sure it is getting a good power and ground. Also, check to see if these sensors are getting good contact to the computer.

A vaccume leak can cause these things too but not as likley. Are you getting exaust gas in the radiator?

I had that problem for a year and replaced a lot of parts, spent a lot of $ and time. I finally replaced the whole distributor and so far (10 hrs. of drive time) the problem has not shown itself. The PIP or magnetic pickup on the end of the distr. goes bad. Just replace the whole thing. It only takes 5 minutes.
