Engine Temp Gauge Going Crazy?????

I have a 2000 GT the Engine Temp Gauge was going crazy the other day bouncing around. I was wondering what could be causing this???

have you recently had a coolant flush??

The sensor may just be faulty. My friends 99 V6 use to do this and it ened up being a sensor or something to do with the gauge. I cant really remember exactly.
