OK, so I'm running to the store last night. Car's just warming up. So I'm not pushing it hard. Accelerating from the light, and I hear a loud bang from the engine compartment. A good puff of smoke follows, and the car goes absolutely silent. I coast off to the side of the road, bleeding tons of oil and coolant.

I walked back to collect some parts from the road (timing chain, part of a bracket, front portion of the oil pan gasket), and the car unload most of it's oil capacity on the road.

I've got a few questions. First off, any guesses what happened? Seems pretty clear the engine seized. But any thougths?

OK, next the big question. I'm near wits end with this car. After a ton of build up work and follow up fixing breaking crap, I don't know if I have it in me to rebuild the motor from the block up. And I don't know if the bank account will swing it anyway. So what do you think I could get for a pretty clean 1994 GT vert with the mods in sig (assuming the block is good and the motor needs a total rebuild)? Or maybe just assuming I need a whole new block too?

wow that sucks. you must be bummed ... i know you have put alot of time and energy (and money too!) into it

did it sound like a backfire? was it your daily driver, or do you have another car?

just a thought ... a junkyard 5.0 would probably only cost a few hundred bucks

yea unfortunatly at this point you are prolly to far into it to get any of your money out...it takes the right buyer to come along and want a modded car in need of an engine rebuild. i say just buy a junkyard motor and get to work. sorry about your bad luck

A motor just does not seize out of nowhere. Have you had any problems in the past? Oil Pressure? Oil level?

A broken car is going to be a bitch to sell for any decent amount of money.

BTW, Where are you located?

POST SOME PICS so we can see what happened. The timing chain coming off sounds like a broken crank snout. Any other parts you found?

I know what you mean on the options front.

My motor has bad rings and I don't know what I am going to do.

Every jy around here don't have a 5.0 motor.

BINGO! You hit it on the head, er, eh . . . snout. Crank broke.

I took it to a pretty good shop here. Just don't have the heart to tear it apart on my own again. And they said the crank snout broke. Probably caused by my balancer failure several months back. I drove it home after the balancer failed. Big mistake. SHould have shut it down.

Anyway, now I need to evaluate my rebuild options I guess. They're pulling the engine to examine the block. If that's good, I might just have em rebuild the bottom end with somewhat stouter parts this time. And maybe replace the clutch while it's out, and motor mounts.

Any other suggestions for what I should cover while the motor's out?

Dude!!! You're about 1/2 hour down the road from me! There is a JY that always has SOMETHING with a 5.0 HO in it. $100, you pull it. There is also a Ford Swap, this weekend at the Expo Center. (State Fairgrounds...less than a mile from me.) Maybe you could find something there.

Tell you what, if we can both get loose at the same time, I'll help you find/pull a 5.0 from the U Wrench It. (You still have to pay for it, though.)

There is also a guy that is into Fords (and usually has the parted remains of 3-4 later model cars at the swap) about 2 miles North of Rt229 on Rt61. It's a JY, on the right. He's a really cool, laidback kind of guy. Stop in and see what he's got. I'm sure he can at least find you one. His name is Jerry. PM me if you want his number.

Good luck!

(CRGT1994--Sorry if I hi-jacked your thread. Just wanna help.)
