I am looking for an engine/trans for the car pictured in my Avatar. It is set up right now for a 351/C4 but I will convert it to a 302/347/351 with a Tremec.

Question is - Has anyone ever used the 87-93 bellhousing/trans without using the driveshaft spacer? This would require the engine and trans to be relocated rearward to the 87-93 location.

It seems that I could benefit from improved weight distribution and get more room for the electric fan, etc. Problem is I would have to fabricate a bracket to move the engine aft and the headers may hit the steering shaft.

I think I am ok on crossmember and steering gear clearance because the car has an Anthony Jones C/M and a Flaming River Rack.

Thoughts???

By the way - Did I mention that I have the 87-93 bellhousing and trans? This would be cheaper for me (I think... Never turns out that way...).

John, I am not sure. Here is a post by Slyvette from a bit ago. I am not sure if you guys are 'apples to apples' or not (he was going an AODE to Tremec swap, vs a short input-shaft fox swap).

His info had stuck out in my mind so I rememebered the thread and thought of it when I saw your thread. I figure worst case, I wasted a minute of your time. :)

Good luck.

Thanks Hissin

This is a helpful list of the parts I need but...

What I was wondering was has anyone ever relocated the engine in a '94-'95 Stang rearward by 5/8 inch (or more???) so they can use stock '87-'93 parts?

I want the engine moved back for weight distribution improvement.

I also have short arms and can't reach the shifter handle...
