Anyone know what a 5.0 shortblock weighs? No heads, no intake.... just a block, cam, crank, rods, timing chain, rings, timing cover, water pump and so forth.

I have a book that would tell me probably, but I'm at work right now. I'll try and look it up later.

Cool. Thanks.

I'm trying to estimate how much a 302 with AFR heads and a Weiand Stealth Intake with a 650cfm carb would weigh. No A/C or P/S. It'd only have an alternator.

a fully dressed efi 5.0 weighs right about 450 with iron heads (no accesories) i would say 375-400 for your combo.

Yea,thats about right.

I can pick up and carry a 302 block for a short ways,bout as heavy as a C4 (a C4 is +/-80lbs).

The cranks is heavy piece, but not over 50lbs I would say.

Pistons and rods...I dont know, maybe 3lbs each per piston/rod combo?

And the rest is pretty light,at most only 10-20 more lbs al toghter.

The bare block is about 75#....

I build motors for customers all across the country, most stroker motors are a little heavier depending on the internal combo.

ford racing 302 with aluminum heads weighs in at like 419Lbs.

prolly 350-375 sans heads. 150 is WAY too light.

I've done a little research and I wanted to share the findings.

First the block. FRPP catalog says the B50 Sportsman block weight approx 10 lbs more than a production block. Summit lists the B50 block at 165 lbs. So About 155 lbs. it is what the production block weighs.

Second the crank. Again from the FRPP catalog, as I said earlier, 38.2 lbs.

Next rods. Each rod weighs about 585 grams. That equals 1.29 lbs ea.

Pistons. These vary a lot. But about 600 grams is a solid, accurate guestimate. Which is about 1.3 lbs ea.

Add it up and you get about 215 lbs

Add about 5-8 lbs for bearings and gaskets.

15 lbs for an aluminum carb intake.

I found a post where someone said AFR225's weighed 38 lbs each. So AFR185's probably weigh in at 40 lbs ea. Give or take a little.

Not known is camshaft weight, timing chain weight, front cover weight, oil pan weight, or total valve train weight.

I just got in a set of Probe Forged pistons, SCAT 4340 rods, SCAT 9000 series cast crank, rings, bearings and all the packaging 77lbs (50 pounds is the aftermarket stroker crank)

I'll weigh a stock block tonight and post the results, I thought empty it was only 75 pounds ( mI throw them around pretty good), cam is 6-8, pushrods, 1-2, etc.. I'll post the weight of a DART Iron Eagle as well.

My fully ported AFR 225's, with lightened goodies weigh 35# each

Can't forget a damper (M-6316-A50 = OEM) is 12.1 lbs. The 28.2 oz M-6316-C351 (for 302/351W) is 11.5 lbs.

Water pump = ? Anyone?

And flywheel. Can't find spec for them either.

What's T5 weight BTW? And how much does a clutch weight?

Damn! Aren't the '86-up blocks all the same? Something about the '85 makes it a little different I think.
