Equalizer Bar Question.

Ive Replaced the Equalizer Bar, Bushings and the clutch pedal rod that
goes the the Equalizer Bar. It just doesnt seem to move very smooth.
The Clutch pedal rod doesn't seems to be very tight. Will the Equalizer
bar Bracket adjust for this problem. The clutch pedal seems to stick half
way down because of this. What am I doing wrong here?

What kind of clutch setup are you using ? Hydrolic/cable/rod linkage ? Is your return spring hooked up properly and not binding on anything ?

Im using a equalizer bar with rods. on a Ford 302 bellhousing. Its a
4spd transmission. Ive also replaced all the springs with new also.

My old '67 with a 289 had some of these problems. I followed the Ford diagrams to make sure I had all components???

My '66 is about to be converted from a c4 to a toploader with stock linkage. To alleviate any of the previous problems, I've added the roller bearing kit to the clutch pedal supports; welded up any of the contact points throughout the linkage that showed signs of ware; and added new bushings and springs throughout. Hopefully this does the trick.

If you don't mind loosing the old mechanical linkage - go with a hydraulic or cable clutch kit.

I had similar problems... I ended up cutting the helper spring under the dash that is supposed to aid with pedal effort. The pedal is stiffer, but it moves up and down easily, and springs back up when I want it to. May not be your problem, but might be worth looking into.


btw... its a BIG %@%$$@#!!@ spring.

Check the clutch pedal pivot bushings

Check the clutch pedal pivot bushings under the dash. On a lot of cars the clutch pedal pivot pin has eaten into its bushings allowing the clutch pedal to move around when you depress the clutch. This will cause inconsistent "feel" and can also lead to the binding you describe.
