Well, I own a 1993 Ford Escort with 1.8L Fuel Injected 4 cyl. Recently the engine lost compression in the cylinders, so I am planning on buying a new engine. I was wondering if it would be possible to drop in a 2.3L turbo and how much a 2.3 turbo would cost.

Any Help would be appreciated.

Thanks

I 2.3 Lima?? I doubt it. that would be a LOT of work to get it to fit. dry sump would probably be in order if you wanted it to fit under the hood.

that would be crazy though.

I believe they had a 2.3 in the escort. but it was a diff block than the one we refer to here.

Ive been looking to do that swap when im done with my other toys..the 1.9 flywheel will bolt to the 2.3 crank and is also a lighter weight if your willing to give up clutch size and go with a tougher unit..anyways the 2.3 will bolt to the 1.9 tranny (im told its a straight bolt in) and youll have to make mounts and possibly a front mount near the crank pulley...youll have to knotch the fire wall and lose AC and heater core to have room for the turbo..its not eaisy to service but itll be bad as hell when its done...i just need an older Scort maybe an 85 or so with the ugly chrome bumpers..i want an ultra sleeper..............................Hal

Ruh Roh!

I really wish you guys hadn't told me about this. Now that I have the 5 speed inthe vert it is a fun littlecar but not a rocket. However I still have the rusty 86 turbo-bird and this 89 Escort GT!!!! I also have a line on a Euro-spec 4WD
Escort unit (Actually a Mazda GTX). Or should I ust go wild and put in a 5.0 and tub the little car?

the 2.3 tempo's were fwd also, maybe some donor parts from one of those and a tranny would help make the sap easier. i dont think the tempo tranny would hold up to a turbo though. just buy a XR4ti. they look better than an escort i think and are way more unique.
