Estimated guess on 1/4 mile time

ok here is how it stands so farin my 67 coupe . about 300 hp at the flywheel maybe a little more. but everything is new in the engine. and the block is a new 302 bored to a 308 at .40 over. new c4 rebuild with about 100 miles on it if that. and 8inch rear end with 2.79 gears (for now) . any one have any idea on a guesstament on my 1/4 mile times? i know its ahrd to say but a estimated time is all im asking.

i know alot of people ask this question im sure every one is tired of them. but just curious

There is really no way of knowing, but one thing for certain is the 2.79 will hurt you. Now if you were racing the 1/2 mile, your witts would be your only top end.

yeah i know hte 2.79 hurts.. and it hurts alot. they wont be there for long. but im just wanted a rough guess on what it might be running how it is. soon it will have eiher 3.55 or 3.73

We need more information: What carb, intake, heads, cam, compression, exhaust, ignition, etc. If you get us that information at least we can make an educated guess.

with the 2.79's, I'd say 14.5-14.8. I'd almost guarantee it. Put some 3.55's or 3.80's in there and I'd think 14.2 or so. Set up the chassis and put in a 3000 stall converter, high 13's should be easy.

Of course this is if you really have 300hp. What are the specs on your engine?

well 88 short block .40 over . 600 cfm eddlebrock carb. weiland intake . and a few other things done to the block i cant remember off hand. ordered it the way it is. . and with gt40 heads its rated at 360 to 375 hp. i talk to the company and toold them myset up . and that ill be using my 88 gt heads and they estimated aroud 290-310 hp so thats what im going by.. havent had it on a dyno yet. not going to until i get my 3.73 or 3.55 gears

88 shortblock with an eddy carb, and a weiand intake is going to make closer to 250hp...unless you have a really good performance cam...then, maybe 275 if its tuned. Remember the 88 engine made about 225hp with the EFI setup.

Run it at the track and let us know man!

What cam? What exhaust? What compression? Is the intake a WEIAND(no L) stealth or a action plus, it should have a part# on it. Those E7TE heads you have struggle to make much more than 300hp in stock form. If you have a stock torque converter, do yourself a huge favor and replace it with a least a 2500 stall, 3000 would be better though. Sounds like your on the right track with the gears.

I had a 351W with TFS heads Hooker 1 5/8 headers, .484 lift 272 Advertised duration, Weiand Stealth, Roller Rockers....blah blah blah...This was about 5 years ago...I ran a 14.7 Needless to say I was super dissapointed, but I had the 2.79:1 gears. Also I didn't know how to properly launch the car. I had a 2200 rpm stall, but the transmissions kept stop working so the people that did my trans made me take it out. Good luck, I hope to build a better matched combo this time around. My situation happened, b/c I just bought each part based on what I thought I knew b/c of magazine articles and such.

why not take it to the track and find out?? every single car is different. if your car is tuned well it could be fast, if it's tuned poorly it could be slow. having some number that someone pulled outta their rearend isn't really going to do you much good for YOUR car.

you can estimate and BS and flat out guess all day long, but the only truth is the track.

If you're using the stock cam, 250 h.p. would be a high end guess. Get rid of the cam and heads at the same time and go with good aftermaket heads like AFR and you should easily go over 300.I would guess you have a 15 second car that could be a mid 13 second car with those two changes and good tuning.
