Historically speaking (circa 2004), the Base GT Converts are about $4,340 more than the Base GT Coupe. So figure the Base 2005 GT Vert will be about $30,887.

The Base Cobra Coupe was $10,330 more than the Base GT Coupe. So figure the Base 2007 Cobra Coupe to be at least $36,660 and the Base 2007 Cobra Convertible to be $41,243.

I got these calculations by referring to MSRP Prices listed on Fords website, for any who wish to know. I couldn't find 2004 Cobra Prices on Ford's site, so I relied on Brad's Site. I factored in a 5% increase on the GT and a 7% increase on the Cobras considering they will be out two years from now.

In terms of the Cobras HP, no one knows for sure, but my guess is 415-435.

A 500hp GT would be sick. Too bad it doesn't look as good as it would run.

Opinions vary.

And in terms of the Mags saying high 400's, my personal feeling is that it's a bunch of hype. Much like the concept cars. It's a hook. Logistically and from a pricing stand point, I doubt it will be that high. But, that is just my opinion. I hope I'm wrong and all of you are right. That would, indeed, be awesome!

I still think Ford will stay with the 4.6L DOHC for the next Cobra. What I'd like to see them do is switch from the Eaton M112 to the Whipple they have on the GT. All Ford would have to do is massage the intake and exhaust slightly, and rate the output where it really is, and they could call it 450 or more. My 03 put down 415 to the wheels with a K&N filter and cat-back exhaust ... which is within spitting distance of 500 crank horsepower. Ford doesn't need to go to 5.4L to get there.

I'd like to see an honest 450 horsepower Cobra, with more emphasis on handling.

I agree with this, it leaves them plenty of room to upgrade later down the road to a blown 5.4 and then work some intake magic and give a small boost in power. Maybe a 500hp cobra for the mustang's 50 birthday

Ford has stated repeatedly that they want the new cobra to have handling on par with the bmw m3. Since current cobras are pretty much in the 420+ crank hp arena, it isn't hard to imagine 450+ at the crank on the new stang. If that is coupled with handling that even is close to the M3, DAMN, that would be one amazingly sweet car.

I guess the most important question to me (and I know there has been a lot of speculation about this) when is the new cobra coming out. The wife has given me the go ahead to get a new C6 vette this spring, but a cobra of this magnitude would keep me in the proper family.

Before I'm flamed for thinking about the vette, I've never owned a chevy before and have driven mustangs for 23 of my 28 years driving. The C6 however is an amazing car for 45k. If Ford gives me a viable option, I'm on it like a bad dog. If they don't...... A MAN'S GOTTA DO WHAT A MAN'S GOTTA DO.

Ford WILL NOT beat a 400hp Vette at 44k. Especially given the new boxy design, the Cobra would easily need another 70-80hp to race with the lighter Vette. And that will cost a lot of money.

I think that the Cobra is no longer going to be the value it once was.. They are trying to market a 500hp vehicle at 100k to fit in between the GT and Mustang. Don't think for a minute that the Cobra will be much more than 400hp.

and also, the current Cobras are rated at 390hp at the tranny. About 340-365 at the wheels. I would expect the new Cobra to be about 390 at the wheels.

Since we are speculating here, I think the new cobra will be out in 2117 and will have 690 horsepower at the front wheels and 780 at the rear wheels, it will have a frame constructed of rice cakes for weight savings, and will cost 74 cents. Cars will all fly and the cobra will be able to leap small buildings in a single bound.

If that doesn't come true, then I just hope for the 450ish horse powered cobra that handles well.

I don't care what they are "RATED" my post concerned what they actually make. New Cobras are routinely cranking out 370 hp at the rear tires. Figuring a 15% loss for parasidic drag that's over 430 flywheel hp.

'03-'04 Cobras are dynoing 370ish stock which is about 435ish bhp. Change the pulley, better exhaust system and a better tuned ecc and the cobra is easily pushing 485 bhp.

Well I'm pretty aware of where they dyno.. because I own one

Stock cobras dyno around 350hp more or less to the wheels. A pulley, catback, intake, and tune will net you about 450hp to the wheels. Add a port job and your at 500hp.

That's 500rwhp.. in an 03 Cobra, for about $1200 for pulley/port, tune, MAF Xtender and dyno.

My point is that if they raise the price of the Cobra at all it will not be the value it once was...

I completely disagree that if they raise the price..... If they radically improve the handling and bump it to around 450 at the flywheel a couple of grand more might make it a great deal.

Even if it runs a moderately close second to the c6 in the quarter, great handling, and a backseat for the kid (s) would easily make this thing worth 38 or so.

While I think it's great that you own a terminator (congrats on a great purchase) I respectfully disagree with your assertion that most make 350. I do this based on several threads which pretty routinely talk about 370 as an average EXAMPLE: http://forums.stangnet.com/showthread.php?t=496496&highlight=stock+dyno That said, Agree to disagree!

i don't think that were arguing. i'll give you 20hp!! besides that, my point is that it would take a LOT more hp for a mustang to take a vette. the mustang in general is a bargain. but the old svt was a bargain because you got all this power for around 40k, and that's compared to a 55k 400hp Vette. The new svt would have to be a hell of a bargain now that corvettes are stock 400hp and around 44k.

Regardless, if the new SVT is as good a bargain as the old compared to the competition, and the bodykit is a lot sleeker, i'll go for one. If not, I'm fine with my current one once it gets to around 500 horse!!!
