Hey guys, my cousin has a pretty much stock 95 LT1 6 speed Camaro. I was talking to him today about car advice and he knows i'm more of a Ford guy...so you can imagine all the stuff he was shoving down my throat about how Chevy is better etc etc. Ofcoarse we now get into 1/4 rants lol saying i'll be faster...no i'll be faster lol. His car has a cat back exhaust and a cold air intake. He told me he's gonna install gears springtime probably 3.73...

Now he does know that i'm delaying my mustang purchase cause i'll be buying a newer 99-02..not the earlier models i decided on (thanks to you guys i got good advice on why to just wait and get the newer engine). How would a stock 99+GT 5 speed go against his car..? Even if i do CAI and cat back can i even match him.?? I do believe the Stang has the power to weight ratio advantage. How bout if we both have the same mods and gears-both 3.73, wouldn't this be a drivers race..??

Oh and btw we will settle this in english town NJ-good 1/4 strip down there to legally speed.:flag:

i'd say depends on if he can drive but with my catback, intake and driver skill i could be my friends 95 firebird with a 6sp and he had just a catback. We never got a great head to head race but after driving both cars my car pulled harder and more evenly through the powerband. Lt1's pull harder up top imo. I did destory a 95 auto camaro with a ypipe, catback, and lid 3-4 cars from 50-95

My brother has an automatic LT1 that he rarely even drives. It ran a 14.17 stock and hasn't seen the track since a few free-mods (yes..freemods are actually REAL on lt1/ls1 cars) and exhaust/intake.

arent the LT1's like.....baby LS1's?

No. they have the same displacement but thats about it. LT1s are just a revised classic small block. the ls1 is a whole nother beast its all aluminum and has heads that flow like you wouldnt believe. those two engines arent even in the same ballpark. And I know because I used to be a chevy guy till I bought the stang hense the name darkside. :nice:

I had raced a 97 camaro (lt1) convertible when I first bought my car.
The camaro was mostly stock other then a k&n intake and overdrive pullies from what I could see, but heard that he had an SCT tuner from someone later but cant say for sure.
My car (01 GT) having just bought it only had at the time 3.73 gears, K&N filter and suspension mods.
we lined up on a 1/4 and I had him from off the line on each of the 3 times we raced and would gain steadilly from the start every time...
I was consitantly 2 car lengths or more ahead of him.
I was not impressed by that car, but I know an ls1 would have killed me at the time...

He didn't have an SCT tuner. He could have had another type.

A bolt on 99+ GT can beat a stock LT1. No doubt about it. However, you mod that LT1 and it can easily be a different story.
