I have obtained a cobra intake for 150$.....great deal right,.......well what i am wanting to know is what kinda power do you make with it and what times is everyone running with it .......ported or not......Please include combos to get that power etc.......

I looked in the FAQ first.......but there are only a few there.......and i think we have more here than what we had then.......

i looked at the flow sheets for the cobra and the edelbrock performer, the performers numbers are a little better, but for the price of the elbow adapter etc.....i can pretty much have the lower ported, and i am wondering if the upper will have to be touched to flow as well as a ported lower...........

Looking to get aruond 240 cfm out of the intake.......average flow........

OH yeah, I won't be porting it myself, if anyone does it will be T-Moss.......i just didn't want to keep bothering him for info......so any and all will be helpful

thanks

I currently have 367 hp and 410 tq on a mustang dyno. Click my cardomain page for the mods. Before I had the cobra intake, 373s, nitto drs, xpipe/catback, underdrives and thats it and ran 13.8s in hot weather. You WILL like it, looks the best too,

My Cobra intake dyno'd me 293rwhp and 327rqtq on a dynojet. Stock shortblock, untouched Edelbrock heads, and a crane 2031 w/ 1.7rr's.

Torque came on pretty early, which is what my vert needs, but it drops off pretty stoutly after it peaked at 3700rpms. I'm looking to upgrade to an Edelbrock Performer RPM.

Woah we have the exact same combo. And made almost identcial power. Do you have any computer tuning done? My comp is untouched.

Edit: I also made peak 327 torque but at 4,000rpm. And hp peaked at 298 at 5,350rpm.

is either of you guys' ported......i want to get the most out of it as possible.....

after the intake......i may actually go with a custom cam.....:dunno:

What did it change......rpm wise in the way your cars pulled........i know when i put my car on the dyno with the t-moss lower and stock upper.....my power was starting to fall off at 4500......it was going lean though.....:dunno:.......

but i am pretty sure that is worked out.....plus after my discussion with JMS today, i think i will have a lot of the bugs worked out upon getting the chip......

My intake is a box stock RPM. I had a performer upper and torque was much stronger int he low end. But i broke a chunk off of it by tightening it to hard so i put an RPM upper on it. The RPM still makes good low end power and screams up top. IT also give me room to grow.

Wow, our combos are very similar.

I'm TwEEC'd with a personal tune by myself.

You have me beat on the intake (considerably) and MAF (I have 75mm bullett), but I have longtubes and a full 2.5" exhaust.

I'm fairly certain mine is maxed out, but you should still have some power left in it from a tune. Do you have bigger injectors? I run 30lb injectors because of my dry 150 shot of nitrous. The Tweecer was definitely vital because of that.

Like I said before, I want a Performer RPM intake so the torque doesn't fall so dramatically as it does now. That should net me some decent power for just an intake swap.

What did your torque curve look like?

y'all think that with the lower of the cobra ported, it will match the performance of the edelbrock.....maybe even port the upper of the cobra ........

Or would i make more power with and eddy perf. than a ported cobra.........i am asking and trying to figure it out cause i can sell the cobra and put money with it to get a performer....if i have too...however......if very very little difference is to be had.......i will just stick with the cobra and have it worked........

My bet, is that the difference between the Cobra and the Edelbrock Performer EFI could easily be made up by porting.

I'd be surprised if you could port the Cobra to match the Edelbrock Performer RPM. Even if you could, the maching cost (you'd need a professional) would exceed the costs of the RPM.

Don't forget that I want to upgrade to the Performer RPM, not the regular Performer EFI.

If it were me, I wouldn't waste a penny porting the Cobra if you want Performer EFI specs. Its close enough.

FYI, I betcha you could sell that Cobra for $200 easily.

Can a Cobra/Explorer/GT40 be ported to perform as well as (or better than) a Edelbrock? You bet, just ask Robert Pearson who's dyno comparison of one of my ported Explorer intakes and then an RPMII is below................

The BIG questions are what heads you'll be using and what cam you'll be using so that the intake charataristics can be matched to the combo.....

I have a fully port/polished matched cobra upper and lower and i was very pleased with the results and wouldnt change a thing. I cant give you any flow data or any prices because each shop is different but it's obviously holding it's own. If you do decide to go with an edelbrock and want to get rid of the cobra i've seen original used (very good condition) 94-95 cobra intakes go for as much as $475.00 on ebay and thats no S**t.

hey TMoss, whats a good cam for a 94/95 cobra intake ported (which i need to send to you, ports are TINY!), and some TFS TW heads? hope you can work some magic the cobra lower ports are like half the size of the tw ports haha.

You can get better advice for cams than from me. I do know what has worked well in other combos and refer to those experiences but I don't usually make recommendations as that is not my area of true expertise. You know the line from Dirty Harry...."a man's got to know his limitations".

I can make the Cobra flow what those TW heads need, no problem. There are more areas that need attention than just the head flange opening size but it is part of it.

Hey Tom...Here's one for ya....

I want to change my CAI to a straighter shot to the fenderwell....I'm thinking of cutting right behind the TB flange, and saving that, then cutting out 3-3.5" out of the neck (EGR area) then welding the flange back on....
Think this will freak things out??? It looks do-able to me...looks like I could re-weld right where that gusset on the neck ends....

It probably is do-able. I hate to see that pretty intake get cut and welded but I'm sure you'll do a real good job of it. Just be sure you have the material to weld where you cut at both ends - that round to more rectangular transition could be trouble some if you take more off than the round section just behind the TB flange. Some parts won't line up anymore (like that rib down the side of the intake) but you can grind them down to allow access for your TIG welder to get a good bead. I assume you'll have both pieces milled to be perectly straight.

Im making 415rwhp on my ported lower Cobra right now with the blower and stock cam. It was making 272rwhp without the blower. If you are keeping the cam near stock then the Cobra or GT-40 intakes are hard to beat. I personally hate the looks of every other intake so the FRPP intakes were the only choice for me at the time.
