Exhaust Baffles

Just installed a set of Bassani aft-cat exhausts. They work well, but have in the chrome tips baffles that can be easily removed. I've tried it and they actually sounds more quiet. Does someone have any information on performance with and without the baffles? Thanks in advance for sharing your knowledge and experience. It'll be greatly appreciated!

its supposed to be louder without the baffles not quieter.

I have the full cat back Bassanis and I took the baffels out make a night and day difference. Without my baffles is much more louder and more drone in the drone zone.

Can't say I've noticed any performance change, don't think you would for it wouldn't be enough to notice if there was.

I keep the baffles out because it sounds awsome.

Thanks for the reply, but I'm stumped. I did a comparison again with and without the baffles and it really is much quieter without them installed. I even borrowed a friends' noise-level meter (cheap one from Radio Shack) and it was around 75 dB SPL with them installed at idel and 12" from the pipes, and 72 dB without them. Could they actually be frequency specific resonators as opposed to baffles (i.e., dampers)? I don't doubt your results, but this is wierd! I too found no performance difference, but have read that the on-board computer may not re-set until 600-800 miles and I have only about 400 miles on mine.

Wierd. In my car, I'd go deaf without the baffles. What kind of mid-pipe are you running?

you must have the batteries in upside down in the noise-o-meter. There is a reason why they call them baffles. Not anti-baffles.

Did you remove the fiberglass cloth from around the baffles? That would make them louder. I thought it was packing material at first, then called Bassani and found out it was functional.

Hissman - here's a tip for you. Modern electrical devices do not operate with the batteries "up side down." It reverses the polarity in DC circuits. Please use the forum for helpful exchanges.

Don't misunderstand the post about the fiberglass wrap ... it should be left on the baffle.

I think you may find that they reduce the noise much more at higher rpms. On my car (Magnaflows with Bassani baffles), the sound level drops about 2 or 3 dB at wide open throttle, from 95 dB to 92 dB. (at 50')

I also dynoed with and without the baffles ... not a bit of difference.
